I don't personally know anyone who has received a speeding ticket on the M25 but it appears they are sending out hundreds. I spoke to a member of Traffic Police over a year ago and he assured me that a number of cameras were coming live after a long delay due to legal issues (I think). I tend to bring my speed down to just below a true 80 mph or less when going though the locations where cameras are fitted but I have a long run a couple of times a week through from the M40 to M11 and the slower I go, the earlier I get up (already 5.45am). This article suggests things are starting to get a bit more challenging! Does anyone know, or have a reliable point of reference (website) for reliable information on; where they are live; what mph speed they are set to; variable speed limit policy. New 'stealth' speed cameras that have caught 700 drivers in two months to be rolled out on more motorways - UK - News - The Independent
I have not personally received a ticket, but I know one or two that have, but only in the restricted speed zones. As far as I am aware not heard of anyone being done for over 70 while not on a restricted speed zone. The cameras just before Dartford tunnel have been reset to just over 55mph and are active possible all the time I think, due to the changes of the crossing tolls etc. Things are changing though
I travel heathrow junction to reigate and I went through couple weeks ago with a few other cars and the cameras went off three times I usually keep to 70 maybe 72 so hoping it wasn't me It was a few gantrys before Cobham I noticed over the weeks that the cameras are going off more than they were
I am heading up to Manchester a week Monday so will keep an eye out, I tend to slow down for gantries and bridges though as you never know. Last time I went Manchester was October last year averaged 85mph most of the way and no ticket. (M23, M25, M40, M42, M6)
I know this isn't ideal, but pepipoo is a good place to see what is happening, albeit after the event. I use it all time with my war with traffic wardens. FightBack Forums
I also noticed going to blue water and back through the evening the cameras go off all the time Bloody bright too
Was a piece on the news tonight. Thought they all had to be flouro...and that ridiculous copper who was spouting 'speed causes accidents' altho he may have said excessive speed the spirit was 71 and you will be a murderer
I frequently travel to the A12 from Heathrow and see these flash all the time. To date I can find no one ( Google) who has been prosecuted from driving above the national speed limit when the gantry signs aren't showing a restriction.
Not sure these new ones are flashers, the gantry ones are but these are off the carraigeway and, the ones on the tv, showed they were over the grass
My brother reports that the m25 side mounted cameras do flash and are very bright. Hastings to Heathrow everyday. These look like normal speed cameras that have been to the gym.
Don't know about that, but there has been a couple of grey ones on trial down the A24 for last couple of years heading down to Worthing sat right next to a yellow one and another one on the A264 heading out of broadbridge heath towards Billingshurst.
Me too, but up ere up norf on the M1 from J25 to J28 the gantry cameras are grey. I had a nasty surprise last week when going from Deepcar Sheffield to Manchester via the Stocksbridge bypass (average speed cameras) upon reaching Glossop area and through to Mottram Moor I became lodged behind a bloke doing 30mph in a 30 zone, nothing I could do but sit it out. Glad I did, because it was then that I noticed what looked like GREEN telephone poles with a GREEN camera on top of them, I thought well I'll be or words to that effect. Googled the bugger when home and it turns out they are speed cameras and there are three of the sneaky beasts in that area although it does seem that it is unclear whether they are active or not. If it wasn't for the bloke in the Merc doing 30 and holding me up then I am convinced that I would not have seen these cameras, they blended in with the trees for goodness sake, and I may have been done. This whole speeding thing really does grate me when I see yummy mummys up here around Bakewell driving in an antisocial manner every day as though they are the only people on the planet, and they are not driving a Nissan Leaf!
The standard ones on the gantries have always been grey same colour as the gantry ever since they went years back.
The M40 is pretty good but watch out for police Vans on bridges close to Beaconsfield and then Stokenchurch.
