M600 Fork Disassembly

Discussion in 'Monster' started by MotoNik, Feb 13, 2020.

  1. Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone has expertise or experience of dismantling Showa forks on a '96 era M600? I'm giving the whole bike a bit of a refresh, and want to change the fork oil.

I've undone the tops, but it seems like something else needs detaching or disconnecting in order for me to take the tops off.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Thanks mate, that's appreciated.

Thankfully the forks don't need seals, and I can slide the outers down a little bit - hoping it might be enough to drain the oil, without having to faff about with a special tool.

My forks are slightly different to the 916 ones in the thread - they're non-adjustable, and from what I can tell from a microfiche, they have a couple of collets (17), that sits into (16). Willing to bet they're a right arse to remove and replace!
