M796 Front Head Stand

  1. So I've just bought one of these jobbies for my '13 Monster 796 after watching a Youtube video on removing the front wheel I thought it'd be a handy thing to have around. The guy in the video gets his 1100S off the ground with no issues...

So, the problem I have is that the bottom triple on my 796 just has a gaping great big hole in it which is WAY bigger than all of the pins which were supplied with the stand. So they just flap around inside the hole and if I tried to lift the bike all the weight of the front end would be supported by the headlight.

I had a look at my friend's Suzuki GSR750 and the centre hole is much smaller, and then has a rubber insert inside that making it smaller again (15mm I believe)... should there be something like that on mine? Am I just being a moron? Any help much appreciated, although this thing was a bargain I'd rather get some use out of it myself than have it collecting dust!

  2. I have a stand like that and my 916 has a large hole in the bottom yoke (aftermarket Ohlins yoke as the Ducati yokes don't have a hole).

I made a large pin by drilling a short piece of aluminium bar of the correct diameter and fitting it onto one of the redundant sized pins, but before doing that I found I could fit a suitably 1/2" sized socket onto the smallest pin (12mm IIRC) and that worked fine.

  3. Ah nice, thanks.

I had a bit of a google to see what the options were, and there are some dedicated head stands for the M796 which come with a 27mm pin. Luckily the brand that I bought sells those for a fiver so I've picked one up.

    Thanks for the pic!
