I got this rear wheel and an original rear paddock stand I think it’s original anyway. and a few other bits which I won’t be using so I’m looking to sell them. I know absolutely nothing about this wheel so could use some help identify and maybe figuring out a price for it..
it does LOOK like an original MAG wheel, the mag's generally had the flat spokes and the extrusions on the back. Does it have any markings on it? the way you've measured it makes it look like an 18 inch rear but it's certainly 17 inch from axle centre, weirdly though it measures 6.75 across and that's the bit that confuses me, it should be a 5.5 or a 6inch, the only way it could have been wider is potentially a WSBK/Corse wheel designed for a fat race tyre but I doubt that.
This is my thinking, must be. The pro's will be along soon and say who makes it and where the logo should be, there must be a Brembo or Marchesini logo on it somewhere (don't Brembo own Marchesini? Seem to remember there is some overlap with 'Brembo' branded wheels out there.
Just had another look for markings I can’t see any. Except this which looks like (rod) (g) (blk) and measured it inside width.
Here’s a new one … https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REAR-WHE...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
At a guess, that would be Rod who applied gloss black paint/powder coat/enamel to the wheel? I concur that the wheel appears to be a magnesium wheel based on the outside of the spokes being “flat” (no “feature”) and the diagonal bracing on the inside of the spokes. This was added to make them more durable I believe. Earlier wheels had no bracing - I had one of each for my 916.
I got mine for £500 the pair. But that was over 15yrs ago. Plus you have to factor in getting them checked over. Xray'd and repainted. Marvic checked and painted mine for £200 I think. £450 doesnt sound unreasonable.
