Maiden Voyage Review....

  1. I hope this is still classed as Newby material...Well from never seeing or thinking of of owning an 848 3 weeks back ive sold my jap and jumped head first into Ducati-ness....
After finding that my bike was very tall on Wednesday when it was delivered when Id finished sulking I removed the superpole seat and ordered an adjustable rear suspension link...
After a bit of fettling I fitted that which dropped things 15mm and with the sun out and in the absence of the standard seat in waiting for I made a very temporary seat...
A mate of mine passed his test last week and picked up his new fazer so he was itching to get out as was I!
It was great to feel that I wasn't about to fall over every time I stopped and just gelled with the bike straight away...yes compared to in lines it's a bit clunky, I missed 2-3rd a few times and 1st is long and jumpy sometimes needing a spot of clutch to smooth things out but I got that straight away. It drops in lovely, felt smoother and more sure footed than my 13plate gixxer, possibly due to tyres. Mirrors are a waste of time but I can live with that, a fuel and gear indicator would be nice but again I'll cope. The torque is lovely, I tried to keep the revs below 8k as the miles are low but overtaking was a breeze. It just felt less rushed and stressed than the gixxer, I felt like I was sat in the bike (I was virtually on the frame!) :Arghh::)but it didn't matter, I was out as was the sun and the noise, the vibration and the admiring looks were great.
Looking forward to a seat next time but definitely a good start :upyeah:

  2. I'd have put the Superpole seat back on! Your temporary seat is a good effort but surely it's so flat that it would've still been awkward to put a foot down at junctions?

  3. Nice engineering love the seat, at low speeds you will find feathering the clutch becomes second nature in 1st gear, So you aint given it no beans yet boy you are in for a nice surprise.
Oh and don't expect it to scream higher up the rev range and expect to hit the rev limiter a few times till you get used to the noise telling you when you need to change gear.

  4. :) The makeshift seat wasn't bad tbh, the superpole is about 50mm deep and wide so it makes a big difference I was quite happy on the frame! The clutch was very easy to use, front brake was nice and predictable, the back felt a bit weak but I'll get used to it...

  5. Weak? In what way?

  7. ha ha your back not the bikes back end

  8. Ha it just needed a bit more foot than im used too, my back was fine...

  9. Got the Superpole seat on mine (stops me from sliding forward, I prefer it), & know what you mean about the rear brake, I've tried adjusting it but it's just got a little bit too much pedal travel.

  10. What you need is these very adjustable rearsets :)
