Manifold bolts

  1. Need to change front down pipe
expecting problems with the manifold bolts just because they are old and not been removed for years!
Any tips to ensure they don't snap off ? Can't soak with wd40 as upside down - is heat recommended or just crack them off?

  2. this is on your 600SS i'm guessing? -you can soak them with WD etc. If you are still using bike then spray them just as you turn off a couple of times maybe and then have snug fitting full hex socket and ratchet etc prepared ready for removing also when 'stinking' hot. If you look carefully to see if stud comes out with nut then you are home and dry. If a stud does snap you might get a second go at it if enough thread for locking two nuts against each other. Often the nuts are so weather beaten that they delaminate and crumble once you offer the socket up.

  3. soak in penetrant of choice
    good socket
if above fails weld a nut to crumbly remains gives new hex to attack and the heat shock helps
if no access to welder gently grind two flats on nut may work with smaller spanner heating as you go
still no joy grind almost completly through side of nut until you can bearly make out the shadow of the thread then split it off
use brass nuts to re assemble

    simple
