Has anyone fitted either to their bike? Is there much of a difference or is it just a waste of money for the extra bling? The gold in either manufactures look great IMO but which one to go for as they are both similar priced, has anyone got them? Thanks OZ Marchesini
What are you changing from ? Lightweight wheels is one of the easiest upgrades, lower unsprung weight and less rotational inertia makes changing direction a lot easier. If you have the funds, a great first step and either Marchesini or Oz whatever your preference for style. Prefer the Oz in your pictures personally. Andy
I prefer the OZ ones personally but it's close. I've had OZ's on my wish list for my 899 for a while but my only niggle is that if u are going to go for the performance of lightweight wheels u must surely consider carbon wheels as there are really another step lighter! That said they are quite a bit more money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I prefer the Marchesini (but I'm biased as I have them on my 916). It also seems to me that 10 spokes might be stronger than 5? although I don't know if this is the case or if there is a weight difference between the 2? The 5 spokes will be easier to clean though, especially given the hollowed out spokes of the Marchesinis. Also, as said above lightweight wheels are probably the single best modification you can make but I suppose that depends on how heavy the originals are? My 916 had the old-style 3-spoke wheels and the weight saving was huge, transformed the way the bike handles especially if you need to correct a line mid-corner
I had the Marchesini's but in Mag..very nice wheels on my 748 hybrid. I think the OZ's are ever so slightly lighter from memory, and personally look fitting on the 1199.
what are you changing from? as asked above, I was doing a little research and the rear 1199S is actually pretty light! not aftermarket light but not bad, if you are coming from a stock 1199 wheel then there is probably a much bigger saving to be had
I've just fitted OZ GASS wheels to my base 1299. They have quickened the steering up. Not given it a full test yet as the ride home was wet, but noticed the difference just pulling out of the dealers. Bike is more flickable.
I got then on pre order at the NEC in December for £1350 delivered or 20% off. I think they are a little more than the Piega's normal price. I bought them through Bike Torque Racing. They are lighter than the Piegas. 3.2 kg front 3.6 kg rear
+1 for OZ, absolutely f'in awesome ! Mine are forged then machined and I looked at them for ages trying to work out how they machined them... geek bling
Ive got a Monster 1200s. Which has the same wheels as the standard 1299 which i think are a bit porky! Aluminium wheels I think would be a good upgrade. Carbon wheels are out of the question as of price and Mag wheels as I've read reports of them cracking and splitting when been used for road use. I am in favour of the OZ, with the 5 spoke gold looks great has anyone got any good photos?
I had both a 959 Panigale with cast wheels and a Monster with lighter forged Marchesini wheels simultaneously. I can categorically state without hesitation that the Monster out-handled the Panigale like it was night versus day. In fact, I sometimes thought the Panigale was clamped in a vise relative to the Monster's side to side maneuverability. I'm sure the wheels probably made a huge difference but not necessarily singlehanded. Maybe the Monster's wider bars with more leverage had something to do with it also? Most likely a combination of both. I just replaced the Panigale with a Multistrada. I specifically chose the Pikes Peak version primarily for it having forged Marchesini wheels. This version is 13lbs less than the "S" and it's predominantly all in the wheels and the carbon Termignoni.
I’ve got a 959 with Oz wheels (which made a noticeable difference over standard wheels) and a monster 1200R with marchesini wheels The monster turns in quicker and is more flickable and feels lighter than the 959
Even with your Oz wheels, I'm not surprised. The Panigale is a track bike with headlamps and turn signals. It's designed to be rock steady at high speeds. Where the Monster starts to become unstable at over 100mph, the Panigale becomes comfortable and cuts through the wind like an arrow through the air.
Unless you are a midget or someone who is the weight of a bag of crisps then I've always struggled with the "but it weighs less" argument, a couple of decent poops would do that so would healthy eating. I'd also be surprised if anyone really utilises the weight saving to it's maximum, some may feel they do. So for me it comes down to the obvious, you're a tart who likes bling and can afford it, so why not if that's your wish.
