Meeting your motorcycle heros, has the bike you have always dreamed of met expectations ? Or were you sadly disappointed ? I officially left school in 1989 but attendance was very intermittent before this. During one of these red-bus-rover days out (guessing 87/88) came across what I now think was 851 being photographed outside a bar in Soho, it was the most beautiful machine I had ever seen. Have yet to try one, but think a 851 sp3 would visually tick all my boyhood fantasy, but worried the ride wouldn't & leave me even more bitter & twisted than I am now ! #anybody of school age reading this, get a education you'll be able to buy more bikes earlier in life. At 45yrs still ain't flush enough for sp3.
Nope, you’d love it, full of character that more modern bikes lack, I always wanted a 900ss, got one a couple of years ago, absolutely love it, dynamically it’s not a patch on modern stuff but it’s the last bike I’d ever sell, you simply need to re-prioritise, sell the wife, children, family pet etc and get the bike
Got a 900sl, which on paper should dull (80hp) but never ceases to make me grin ear to ear on all but the fastest roads. Not sure i could part with 900sl, but going to go for the dream....you only live once !
I have an SP3 and an 1198S - you almost certainly won't be disappointed with the SP3. As Mark said, performance-wise the newer bikes will leave it for dead, but it has character, which more than makes up for it (IMO). If (when) I have to sell one of my bikes, it won't be the SP3 - in fact if I get too old to ride it I'll keep it and polish it!
I had an SP3, it was wonderful. Not so good on bumpy roads. Sound made your stomach vibrate and your chest pulse. Iconic.
Think I’d of had more chance of riding cindy Crawford than getting a test ride from them, saying that they do have a few desmo’s and I’d really like to ride them lol
Had a mate who used to blag test drives in supercars, fake Rolex & tan....But he kind of had a 'aura of wealth' that car salesman & niave gold diggers fell for.
