Melting number plate

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by JimVee, Jun 4, 2013.

  1. Disappointed isnt the word, done 400 miles and the number plate is melting on the PP with the full Termig system. Missed a phone call from Ducati Italy tonight but they are calling back tomorrow, I guess to ask if I am happy with the bike which I am except for the melting number plate! Had to buy a new one on Sat to go out for a ride incase Mr Policeman pulled me. IMG_1278a.jpg IMG_1277a.jpg

  2. You weren't at On Yer Bike in Aylesbury last Saturday were you? I spoke to a PP owner there and he (you?) was saying about his melting number plate due to the Termi.

  3. Oups :)
You need to do the rear sliding the other way, for the fumes to go away from the plate :p

  4. Very common issue, covered to death on here eventually the rear splash guard can melt also if you're carrying a bit of weight

  5. I mounted mine on sheet of aluminium with small washer better plate and sheet cures issue. Ducati response is for racing use so wouldn't have plate!!!

  6. Hi Briggers, yeah that was me, you turned up on the Mutley with your missus on a BM?

  7. I have put a prototype ali plate with exhaust tape in between and seems to work but looks pig ugly. Will look to modify on prototype number 2....

Thought that would be Ducati's stance re racing can so no plate!

  8. I've noticed with the termi pipe and termi footpeg / exhaust mount that it mounts too close towards the tire. Even with the smaller american plate it melted the reflector and blackened the turn signal. Before I powder coat the rear foot peg / exhaust bracket I'm going to bend it out as far as I can or maybe even cut and weld it to hold the muffler 1 or 2 inches further out. It's not the greatest design for the money. If your taking your pass. pegs off andy has a bracket designed that could probably be made to move out a bit.

  9. Hey JimVee - that was us! Good to see you on here! :)

  10. 6K and all I've got on mine is a slightly grubby offside indicator - plate is fine.

  11. Italian plates are metal. Problem? What problem?

  12. Did you come up with a MkII solution for this, or did you stay with the square of aluminium? I've just ordered my full Termi system and I thought I'd sort out the number plate before it arrives to head that issue off at the pass. I've seen recommendations for using aluminium and also various heat tapes and wondered if you had come up with the perfect solution :)

    Cheers

  13. If any of you require an ali plate ...I work at a place where avaition sheet ali is used and discarded which would be suitable.

  14. As a point of information, None of the ali plates I have seen have been road legal for bikes registered after 1973.... Just saying.

Just ordered the sticky backed heat reflecting sheet off eBay recommended by Psy69, 6000 miles and 9 months and the plate is going black and bendy, so I need to do something.

  15. Unfortunately I think Ducati are vindicated by the fact the full Termi is sold for race use. As such the number plate was never a design / development consideration I guess ?

  16. Not for me, who buys a MultiStrada for a race bike?

  17. Its more a designation of one, or a combination of the following :- Not type approved / road legal / use only as indicated. Quite common to see in after market products.

  18. You can buy them in pressed ali, Google Jepsons. The McLaren F1 road car had an Aluminium pressed rear number plate because of the heat
