  1. Changed the oil ready to put the bike away for the winter today and found the following on the magnet on the sump plug.

Is this the dreaded oil gallery plug problem?

  2. It might be, but I would expect them to be a bit larger......I say that only by judging what I have seen of other photos where the plug has been moving.

It might also be minor 'shavings' from the worm gear tacho drive on the front camshaft.....worth checking the silly pulley nut on the front cam to make sure it is really tight as it is the only thing which stops the worm gear from rotating on the cam.

Still.........as you have just got done for speeding, it might give you time to strip it down......

  3. PS.....On the 900SS you may find the worm gear is held in place by a Woodruff key, but IIRC this was phased out somewhere around 1994.

If you look at the parts manual you can see two Key slots, but in reality, when the cam is removed there is only one.

  4. Have you checked the mesh filter?

  5. The bike's shrink wrapped for the winter now. I'll have a look in April.

  6. Looking at the pics, I honestly do not think you got much to worry about. A few false neutrals will generate the same amount of swarf

  7. It does suffer from the occasional false neutral.
