Bought a 2nd hand set of Metzeler Roadtec 01’s for the dvt ( not interested in the ‘oh bloody hell 2nd hand tyres !!! ‘ ) I did want pilot 4’s , but none in stock Rear with 6mm , front 4mm ..pressure tested etc, no repairs £100 fitted by respected mobile fitters Wondered if anyone had them fitted to a multi & experience on them ?
I have been riding with Roadtec 01s on my 1st gen Multistrada 1200 and find them excellent. They don’t have the outright handling of the M7RR which I use for solo riding but they deliver surefooted handling in both the wet and dry and are relatively long lived. I say relatively, I go through an M7RR rear in 2500 and the 01 lasts about 4000 before I choose to replace it although it has usable tread. I tend to change my tyres with about 2mm of tread left. I’m a great Metzeler fan, 01s, M7RRs and the Racetec for the track. Some are not as enthusiastic. For a point of reference, Metzeler have recently launched an updated version of the 01 which, when all this shit is finished, I shall be fitting for my (fingers crossed) French trip in September. There’s a decent tyre tread somewhere. But tyres are a bit like asking about personal taste. You’ll love this !,!, in my opinion the 01 was just about the poorest quality tyre I’ve ever run. Never felt confident in its feedback and wore out in a very short time leaving a bloody awful shape. Front felt like it was going to under on every right turn (And yes I’m a quick rider with over 40 years experience)
I've had 3 sets and will probably have them again. Need the heavyweight version, though. And they're still winning all the group tyre tests.
I only use metzeler roadtec 01 on my enduro, great quality tires. However they do do two types a standard that my rear fits & a heavy weight version which you probably got. They are good for 150mph+ short stints' I get mine from mytyres, who only supply brand spanking new versions aka 2019.
They came fitted on mine but the front had less tread than i like so I fitted a new one....even the new one doesnt have lots of tread mind In the very limited time I had to ride the bike, they seem OK - BUT, I am a Pirelli fan, so when the back has gone and unless they amaze me, it'll likely be on to a pair of Rosso Corsa's or similar ...I dont care how long they last as long as they work when they are on
Roadtech 01's are excellent and why they have cleaned up in every comparison test published since they came out. For the Multi they are perfect, I have had four Multi's and I bin the useless Scorpion Trail tyres at the first opportunity. In the wet or through the winter I wouldn't want to be on anything else. Great grip, smooth ride and good for 5000m. I have even tracked them and they hold up pretty good!(ish) The new SE version (sports edition) are supposed to be even better. Through the summer I would lean towards using the M7RR (now updated to M9RR) if possible. The only negative feedback I've heard about Roadtech's was at a meet where a rider didn't like the front profile as it steered too quickly(falling off a cliff feeling). As far as sports tourer tyres go, you'll be pushed to find something better. I know quite a few people who have tried Michelin Road 5's and have now reverted back to Roadtech's.
Which absolutely proves tyres are down to personal choice, riding style and road type. ive never had anywhere near 5000 out of a set of tyres on a multi. Current scorpions are 50% gone at 1250 miles. ive also ended up changing more often than not because the shoulders have gone rather than the centre tread. I just love nailing this bike everywhere, nothing quite like it..
@Steelboss Just replaced the rear OEM Scorpion at 9400 kms yesterday. Longest I've ever been on a rear tire. Perhaps this is material but i'm a light rider, I don't tour and ride the Multi as a sportbike. I stay away from straight roads. Let's see how I like the Angel GT and how they fare. I've never had them previously. Will be mounting the front Angel sometimes next week.
Thanks for all the comments chaps , it’s appreciated I did a ‘few’ miles yesterday ( the long way round from the mot station anyway ) ...absolute night and day over the stock Pirelli’s I’ve had fitted for the last 4 years
