I've just had the above fitted to my 1199s on Saturday in 200/55 rear. As there's not much in the way of reviews for these tyres I figured I'd share my thoughts as I put some miles on them. First impressions are they are SO tall!! Marquez would struggle reaching the edge I think?! Traction control is much less intrusive now compared to the 190 rear - probably a difference of 2 settings, I.e. Setting 8 with the new 200 profile tires reacts similarly to the way setting 6 did with the previous 190s. I've scrubbed them in and given them some stick - really good feel to them, allow nice, controlled small slides powering out of corners at TC setting 7 (thanks TC - I know it wasn't me controlling that rear!) I'll report back as I increase mileage. Previous tyres were Michelin Pilot Road 3s in 190/55 which got me through the Winter and wet weather riding, plus a wet trackday. I got 5000 miles out of them and they still had life left, but we're losing grip and the shoulders were wearing down on the front. Sam
Sam, I'm just about to embark on a bit of Euro touring on my 1199S so looking for something a bit more longer-lasting and tolerant of wet roads than the OE Supercorsas. Sounds as though you'd recommend Pilot Road 3s ? Anyone else got any good suggestions for my 1199S sports tourer ?
I'd say that with the excellent reviews of the new pilot road 4's, and my good experiences with the PR3's, I'd suggest trying the PR4's? They're going to be on my bike soon (once I can ride again after breaking my arm a while back)
rich d try the new metzeler m7rr great tyre , loads grip and milage is great ,cant go wrong with them sissy mac on heres had both above tyres ask him,
Hi Sam check your manual certain t/c 7 is set for a for a 190 profile maybe better with 6 or 8 , ps had m on lasted well great tire , I agree marcez would struggle to ride off the rear ,
Used road 3 last winter great found front bit to round switched to normal 2 ct front and pilot road 3 rear . Good combo last ages .
There's a big difference between how the TC intervenes between these 200/55 tyres and the previous 190/55 PR3s. The manual does show TC7 for Diablo rain tyres which are 190 profile, and that would work well assuming a similar profile to the PR3s, but as I mentioned into earlier post the intervention is totally different between the two profiles. I set the TC as the manual suggests - start on 8 and come down one level at a time riding your usual style (fast road, track, wet, dry etc) and when the level of intervention is just right to control slides/spin without preventing drive out of corners then that's the correct setting. Doing this around the same loop I found level 5 good for road use with a 190/55 and level 7 with the 200/55 supersports Sam
