Hi there My 996 is fitted with great sounding Micron cans, however i have been told that when following my mates can smell petrol. I also get a hesitation when pulling from low revs on a gentle overtake. Higher revs are fine. I also smell petrol when i put the bike away in the garage some 30mins after returning from a days ride Any suggestions Should i by a Ducati performance chip adverised on E-Bay for £35? I have a small budget so no power commanders and dyno time please
Hi Steve Found this for you, sounds like JHP made chips also but cannot find for what bikes see next line, both quotes from Sporting ducati's in 2009 ish I’ve never used a power commander but the appropriate JHP chip and simple set up is working great for me James (think it was £58.00 all done). Depends how much you’d like to get involved I think… Ill speak to John if you like? If not, i'd go down the PC route but whilst having it mapped, do the single injector mod and have the fuelling sorted to suit. The 996 really does run well on that set up. Seconded. Nelly did the single injector mod on my 996 and it made a world of difference. Might save a bit on fuel, single injector system appears to give 130 to 140 hp and runs alot better. googled fim chips and loads of stuff on the net.
The 996 is famous for the fueling stutter mine was a complete bastard on overtakes I squared it by getting it chipped properly by Ducati John Leeds , jhp in coventry are shithot too mate give them a bell...basically the ecu throws a wobbly and chucks more fuel in when crack the throttle causing the stutter and then boom ....
Take a look at the fuel sender nut big plastic one on the fuel pump base it could be split and allowing fuel to drip out. brian.
Hi Steve Ill give him a ring today, ill ask about the ducati chip too that you are looking at. let you know later
Hi Steve Spoke to John at JHP, they do indeed produce a specific chip for sorting the fuelling on the 996, it is £50 plus 2 hours to set up plus the VAT so about £150 + vat, but in my experience they normally give an outside price to keep the customer happy. I did ask about the ebay ducati performance chip but no guarantee of it working unlike the JHP chip. Hope its been of some help Rob
