Middle lane hoggers.

  1. [h=2]New powers for plod.

Middle lane hoggers and aggressive drivers who cut up other motorists or tailgate face on-the-spot fines of £100 and three points on their licence under plans expected to be unveiled.
    [/h]About time too.

  2. Nothing makes my piss boil that some twat sat at 67 MPH in the middle lane. If it was up to me they would be dragged out of their cars, tied to a tree at the side of the motorway and birched

  3. Great idea, its enforcement that is the issue. We've all been there when a patrol car is in the inside lane doing 70mp. Nobody has the balls to pass them so people just sit in lanes two and three behaving themselves. Are they going to nick everybody sitting in the lanes behind them? Nope. this is just the same the mobile phone thing. Its great in principle, but will be so rarely enforced that it wont make a blind bit of difference

  4. Just makes you want to sit on a motorway bridge with a giant ray gun (and no not to get their reg numbers- to blast them into the correct lane )

  5. Weird, I was having this very conversation a little while ago here at work.

The chap I was speaking to told me. "What middle lane? There is no 'middle lane'! There's the inside lane, the 1st overtaking lane and the 2nd overtaking lane!".

Not sure how accurate this is but it sounds right and I like his style

As for '70mph plod in the inside lane', I often overtake them at an indicated 75mph (approx 69mph in real terms, both on my bike and in my car). More often though, said plod is already doing an indicated 75mph so I just sit behind them (and feel tempted to tailgate them - not!).

  6. Totally pointless if there's nobody enforcing the rules. Mobile phone use has been subject to fines and points for years, yet I see people doing it every day. Admittedly, hogging and tailgating are more visible, but increased fines for phone use seems futile.

  7. Sounds like another case of treating the symptom and not the cause!

What are the French doing differently to us, as they don't have this problem.

  8. The last time I drove/rode in France, people were doing what they always seem to do - overtake, pull in, overtake, pull in. It's like a giant game of leapfrog but at least everyone seemed to know what everyone else was doing ... which seems quite good, thinking about it.

  9. educating new drivers as to the rules of motorway driving would also be a good start. learners should have a least one lesson prior to test on dual carriageway and motorway driving...its also incredible to think that most drivers, particularly experienced drivers who believe that the speed limit on dual carriageways is 60, not 70.

another option is use the american system where under taking and over taking are permissable. however this would take a national campaign to educate drivers .

  10. Lanes are numbered 1, 2 and 3 etc. All lanes other than number 1 are overtaking lanes.

How many people refer to the 'fast' lane !

  11. Good idea but isn't the fine for using a mobile only £60? So staying in the middle lane is more serious???

  12. We were chatting about the middle lane idiots at work the other day - They always seem to fall into a few categories as well:

    Old people doing about 48mph
Younger women with their noses almost touching the windscreen
Asians (not being racist here, but down the M4 it always seems to be those of an Asian background)

This middle lane hogging has got to be one of the worst driving 'crimes'. This has been made all the worse now the M25 has been extended to 4 lanes in some parts - They now have 2 middle lanes to hog!... Agree with Mr C - They should all be flogged and banned from driving for life! I really don't understand that even when they know you are there, and the inside lane is completely empty, they still insist on driving in the middle lane...

They have not allowed their much larger country to become grossly overpopulated.......... I love driving in france. I have promised we will never holiday in the uk again. Anywhere worth visiting within the UK is always ram packed and overpriced. You can keep it ta!

  14. Lane hogging will be an interesting one to police.
When does one qualify as a lane hogger?
    1/2 mile
    1 miles
    2 miles

Tailgating will be easier....Just nick every w@nker in a BMW... Isn't that what front park assist was invented for?

  15. This will never make a jot of difference. Ride around london for an hour and count the people on their phones. You will loose count. You need to have enforcement for a rule to work.

  16. I had a long motorway drive the other week and on many sections where it became busy I could not help but notice lane 1 had big empty stretches, Lane 2 was full of 68 MPH fucktards in Nissan Notes with fish stickers no doubt wearing beige slacks and comfortable shoes on a day out to some National Trust house. Lane 3 was full of Angry people in BMW's and the odd person doing 69 MPH past Mr & Mrs Fucktard. And then when you get past all the mayhem al that caused it was the rapist truck driver who sits in the middle lane for mile after fucking mile over taking a prostitute murdering truck driver.

  17. Truck drivers travelling at 59.8mph need to overtake those doing 59.4mph - it's simple economics. Over the course of a year, that extra 0.4mph adds up to many, many extra rapes and murdered prostitutes.

  18. I have in the past seen middle lane drivers that shouldn't be there but back in slow lane so I have driven upto them in the slow lane and just driven along side them till they move back over surprising how quickly they move :)

  19. Mobile phones should have a cradle that they sit in and automatically turn them off when car is travelling along
As no one can be trusted not to use them then something should be introduced that puts a stop to it instead of relying on the phone user
Perhaps it could flag up on the reader that reads number plates using GPS
There is lots of technology out there to stop it surely

  20. The problem with the fisherfolk is they are torn between needing to overtake rapist truck driver and breaking the law/speed limit.
Breaking the law will lead to much self flagellation!
