Came out from work last night to temperatures of 3C and heavy rain. Lovely. Now I normally would not dread rain in the slightest, and the Roadsmart II tyres my 4s wears are without doubt the best wet weather tyres I've ever had, but the EBC HH pads in combination with the Blackshadow discs are not good in heavy rain. The pads seem to take a few milliseconds to bite and therefore result in your arse twitching like a rabbit's nose. So, I start the bike and head away, but the clutch feels a bit weird, like it was not fully engaging. I stop and try to get neutral and it's a bit of a struggle. Work is 19 miles from home mostly by clogged up, evening motorway. Bugger. So, I head out and start the drudge anyway. There are two roundabouts and three sets of lights before the motorway and at the second set, it cuts out as I try to get neutral. Fuck sticks. Started again, with the cold seeping in, I grimly anticipate miles of filtering between the middle and right lanes as I can already see the motorway backed-up. Arse biscuits. Anyway, I eventually managed to get it home, struggling with the clutch action. I went out today and found that the clutch fluid resembled mushroom soup. Oh dear. A few minutes with the MityVac, and some fresh new fluid and lo and behold, I have a nicely operating, Oberon-enabled clutch action again. This is a big relief, and the feeling of disaster averted is strong. Having had a few things needing doing recently, a new starter motor, front wheel bearings, rear wheel bearings, I am just looking forward to a period of uninterrupted usage now. A
Did you get your front wheel bearings from anywhere specific? Mine need doing. It's a right rumble in the jungle trundling along!
Got the bearings from the local independent guy. He generally keeps a stock of the regular service stuff and does very good prices. But they are a pretty standard bearing, AFAIK.
The wheel bearings are pretty standard size SKF bearings. I get mine from the local bearing shop for a fraction of the price Ducati charge. I think you'll find the ones that come in a Ducati box are actually made by SKF anyway - so buying them from a bearing supplier just saves the cost of having them shipped all the way to Italy and back...
Yeah, I found exactly the same. Put a set of EBC Pro-Lites on a ZZ-R600 years ago with EBC HH pads. Fucking scary! Totally resolved with Carbonne Lorraine pads. Will be doing the same this time.
Mm mm mm fingers crossed but I suspect the clutch master cylinder. Mine was ok for a short period after bleeding but the problem got worse. I hope it's not the same ; not cheap.
No, but it was so baggy when I got it the ZZ-R600 felt that old. A few mods and she eventually was reaosnable, though never taut.
