My front indicators are playing up and not working. Normally when this happens, the likely culprits are the loom connections found on either side under the headlight. But this time, *both* front indicators fail to work., OK, of course, it could be both the connectors I mentioned, but is there another common loom connection for the front indicators, and if so, where is it located, please? Thanks.
Moto, they share the same earth path, which is also shared by the clocks and dash lights and is susceptible to corrosion and poor loom contact related overheating. The usual culprit is the round connector under the front of the tank on the RHS which can collect water, open it up and look for corroded or burnt pins, the earth is a black cable. Earlier models and later ones have the same system but the pin references are different. Other symptoms will include erratic indications on the rev counter, dimming idiot or dash lights for no reason or excessively when the indicators are switched on and the engine running (with a fully charged good battery and 100% alternator and its connections).
If you have a few minutes, pull the headlight fairing off. Then you will need to remove the headlights which is just one screw at the fron and disconnecting the globes. You will then see the connectors inside the aluminium headlight bucket and can check for corrosion and clean them up. While you have the headlights out you can open them at the back and clean up any fogginess inside the glass
Thanks, guys. I'll have a good go at it next time I have the nose-cone off. Further brief investigation this morning before it started raining revealed that it was in fact the connections on both sides under the headlight. I remember about the round connector now too Denzil, and recall being lectured by louigi about keeping it clean! But no other poor earth evidence from dash lights or similar.
