1260 Mirror Adjustment

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Oly, May 28, 2019.

  1. Is it me or dont the mirrors adjust? they seem solid and dont move

  2. Not tried to move the stems but the glass in the mirror casing has some adjustment - need to be careful and push on the edges

  3. I thought the same, then read the manual and it says you can adjust by pushing the glass....so tried that and guess what?? Broke the glass on the left side one . So my advise is to leave them alone :upyeah:

  4. I'm not trying to be flippant here, but in fact the mirrors are surprisingly easy to adjust. By pushing on the outside edge of the mirror frame, on the nearside or far-side, as necessary, trying NOT to push directly on the glass, they will shift. I would suggest pulling first on the outside face of the mirror, to get it on the move, inwards towards the tank and then gradually push forwards to get them as preferred. If you still can't get quite enough adjustment as they are attached to the bike, then simply remove the rubber stoppers inserted into the top of the mirror stem, where fixed to the handlebars and then you can alter their position using an allen key to suit. This will allow the bar to rotate/move forwards or backwards. However, beware as they tighten 'opposite-lock', i.e. anti-clockwise!(I'm pretty sure).

I can adjust mine often when riding the bike, so it might be that yours are a little resistant, so try the above first and then see how you go.

  5. While the mirrors are meant to adjust on the stalks my left one is very stiff and the right one almost completely seized. Some of the simplest things can elude Ducati

  6. Surprised (he says, tongue in cheek) to hear others are battling with their mirrors too.
I am battling with one of my mirrors to get it to point down - it keeps reverting to its old position.
Armed with Tony's notes I feel a bit of mirror flexing coming on...

Just to answer one of your points Tony, the threads are different side to side. This is so they tighten with wind on them.
Left mirror should be left hand thread, or 'righty-loosey'. Right hand mirror is normal thread.

  7. I may be a tad late on the reply but to anyone struggling with this, the handler bar clamp needs loosening a slight angle change of the bars up or down and hey presto!

  8. Do we all know that there is a cap on the underside of each mirror? Remove the cap, loosen the Allen screw behind it and hey presto, much adjustment.

My 1260 went over a year ago, but I’m sure my memory isn’t playing tricks on me.

  9. My 2001 996 had the same screw setup.

  10. As mentioned above, there is a little cover to undo a bolt that loosens them up. However I think they are gash as they don't allow for ANY bar movement in terms of tilt so if you're above or below a certain height... No chance at getting the bike setup properly in terms of ergonomics.

I replaced the mirrors with the following and after a recent trip to Spain, I can confirm that visibility is drastically improved (no excessive vibrations unlike OEM) and with a rubber gromet provided, they sit very well and I've been able to adjust the bar tilt according to my riding style. As an added bonus, I don't feel as much wind turbulence on my shoulders. Although I can't confirm, it may be placebo.

Oh, and adjusting them on the road is a breeze compared to the old ones. No need to faff about if you have a pillion or not.

    I ordered the following:
Mirrors / Adapters / Bar Risers

  11. Disagree, tilt the bars and save your money.
Did this last evening and from whingingabout the mirrors being crap a simple 2degree change transformed them into perfect rear vision!

  12. What height are you? I'm 6'2" and no matter the tilt, the OEM mirrors just didn't have the amount of adjustment I needed to make them work. That and the vibrations were awful.

If you don't want to spend the money and it works, then absolutely leave as stock. If you don't want vibrations and more adjustment options, then splash out on the parts or similar I linked to.

  13. I am 6’2” also and was initially concerned. I considered changing them to aftermarket mirrors but then realised a simple adjustment is all that required on the bars themselves. So easy and obvious. Final adjustment of the mirrors then tighten the nut under the removable cover to lock in place.

  14. Interesting, I really couldn't get them to sit right for me. Good to know for others before spending money then!
