Hi all, has anyone refurbished/repainted their OEM mirrors? Mine are looking a little tatty and I was considering sanding and repaying them myself….gotta be cheaper than buying some replacements?!
This is the thread about the bike, the mirror refurb pics are in there https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/996-tidy-up.98461/
Yes, I have done many including some with a body colour and a white pinstripe and the face of the mirror. They are quite easy to do. You release the mirror and backing plate from the cup by undoing the screw using the drain hole underneath the mirror. On earlier models, it's a crosspoint screw and later ones used an Allen key, which is what my 998 had.
What an absolutely fantastic thread mate - huge congratulations on documenting each step in the way you have - super simple to follow and really informative! Out of interest, whereabouts in the UK are you?
Oh brilliant - not too far away at all then - I’m Hucknall, just off J26 if you come through the Watnall way….be good to meet up with you if you’re ever out and about on your bikes…
I work away all week, which can be a bit annoying, especially when people keep sending me pics of the different bike meets they are attending, there is a weekly bike meet at a new bike shop on Kirkby Lane, between Pinxton and Kirkby, my brother keeps attending, and sending pics I have a week off coming up soon, and I'm hoping to attend, just not sure on which bike yet
If you are using spray cans then get a decent etch primer in order to avoid the paint peeling later on as sometimes the adhesion is not so good as it's a plastic surface and the paint can crack and peel. If you can finish with a lacquer it will help if you mark it at all as you have more chance of being able to polish marks out. Here's a tip if you do mark the mirror edges etc. using these magic sponges helps a lot in removing the mark\s they are very cheap and they have many uses. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...over+Pad+Melamine+Foam+Dirt+Pad+-+UK&_sacat=0 10 x Magic Cleaning Sponge Eraser Stain Remover Pad Melamine Foam Dirt Pad - UK
