  1. Yes, a must, especially for my license

  2. Nope, pointless, prefer to rely on life savers etc..

  1. Almost all of my bikes ive owned ive converted to mirror blanking plates and binned the mirrors completely, for a number of reasons;

    1) theyre largely shite and just wobble about
    2) easier commuting between lines of traffic, especially as "cars" tend to be a lot larger and wider now
    3) it looks cooler :joy:

However, the new steed has the OE ones still fitted and i have to say i enjoyed having the use of them to see if anything *ahem untoward was coming up behind me at the weekend.

    What are peoples thoughts?

  2. 1, The mirrors on the 899 do wobble a bit, but aren't too bad and are WAY better than the absolute turd fitted to the Panigale V2...

2, I'd say this is questionable, they aren't any wider than the handlebars? Or is it the height relative to wing-mirrors on cars?

3, yes this is true, although personally think the bar end mirror with an indicator built in is probably the best solution providing the indicators are good, I saw some that light a ring around the bar and and can be seen also from behind the bike which is always an added bonus to be seen

  3. As with Phil, v2 mirrors are mostly pointless and fitted because they have to be

However, one occasion they were useful, I did see a fleck of blue lights in them and luckily it was an ambulance trying to get through the traffic. I couldn't hear it over the bike and earplugs so probably wouldnt of had a clue till I was in the way and slowing it down without the mirrors

Possibly worth keeping for that reason for me

  4. Yeh, I find a lot of the vans and suvs mirrors protrude into your filter space quite a bit more these days but happy to be proven wrong of course (may also just be a bit of a mental thing).

  5. Do you mean legally? Ive never had an issue when MOT time came along.

  6. No he probably means to homologate the bike for use on UK roads they had to be fitted but didn’t matter if they vibrate…

they are totally unusable on the V2 Though

  7. As with most thing in life, this can't be distilled into a simple yes/no poll so I won't answer it.

On most sportsbikes the riding position and a full face helmet makes a full rear view look behind difficult. A likesaver look is just that, checking someone isn't about to overtake before you pull out. Wouldn't be without mirrors.

On my smaller classic machinery the riding position is more upright, and I usually have an open face halmet. I can get a decent rear look behind, and I like the uncluttered look as mirrors weren't fited as standard in the 50's. The bikes don't do silly speeds so I've no worry if plod is following. I often ride mirrorless.

If I ride in a group I'm often lead rider so mirrors are useful for keeping check that people are still in touch.

  8. deffo for mirrors. i like to know, in fact, i must know who or what is following me. :innocent:
the fugly's mirrors are superb. th 848 seem better this year. always stable enough but pish in general. maybe i've lost some weight or summit. i've considered parabolic mirror things that stick on the original mirror from time to time.

  9. They don't. There is no requirement under UK law for motorcycles to be equipped with mirrors. There is, however, legislation relating to them if they are fitted ( mounting, projection etc ) and you can't get type approval for a bike to be sold new in the UK without them fitted.......

  10. I like a mirror. Some of my bikes just have a single bar end mirror and the sports bikes have just the standard setup. I find the 899 mirrors very good but I did add a shim to the pivot point to take out the play.

  11. I rode for years without mirrors. They're not a substitute for the 'lifesaver' and probably encourage complacency, but that would be down to teaching.
Leaving aside the issue of the contortions required on some bikes to look behind (and/or to use the mirrors - 999 *cough*), when going through the twisties at a rate, it's useful to glance in the mirror when, feasably, by looking over your shoulder you could go off the road. That's all I think they're good for. And, speaking for myself, that only really matters on bikes that accelerate so fast and with the lightest, even unintentional, touch on the throttle.

  12. I usually use just 1 bar end mirror, just to see what’s coming up fast behind me usually a motorcycle. Helps me get out of their way when I’m riding behind my lad when out and about.

  13. If you don’t have mirrors, how do you check your makeup on the move?

  15. I went Rizoma stealth, so much better than the useless originals as they don't vibrate, one less thing to do for a trackday. But a bit pricey, but what isn't!!!

  17. I was a mirror and life saver mover saying that the SS mirrors would vibrate to tarmac viewing
I like to know what's behind me when I'm at a standstill and leave room in front in case someone doesn't stop

  19. the mirrors on my V4P vibrate more than a sex toy and are only slightly better than useless but i'd still rather have them, they give a vague idea of what's behind me, always do a lifesaver though before i do anything.

  20. Firstly, great to hear you've a new bike Looking forward to seeing it in July. Secondly, this made me smile as you were the first person I ever met who immediately junked their mirrors on buying a bike pinned the throttle and called it done.. I couldn't ride without them, maybe more through force of habit than anything else, but you're right about modern cars etc...their wing mirrors are often at the same height as the bikes and make filtering a more difficult activity than it need be. Cue Red899 ordering million dollar Rizoma blanking plates See you soon fella
