Mk3 Rear Brake

  1. Hi All.

I’m putting my 250 Mk3 (back) from clip-ons and rear-sets to regular pegs and bars, but the rear brake cable has me banjaxed. One picture shows the old and the new cables: in place of the brake light switch with the old cable running through it, I have a separate switch to work with the new arrangement.

Other photos show the side of the bike. The slotted bracket which functioned as the outer cable stop is right in the foreground of one pic. Obviously the new cable is longer than the old. But the inner and outer cables are both longer - each by 9 - 10 cms.. Does the new outer cable fit between the same stops as before - the slotted one in the pic and the one cast as part of the brake plate of the rear wheel: you can fit it in, but it has to bend away up and then away down and back up again. And of course the the inner isn’t enough longer than the outer to reach from the slotted outer cable stop to the arm of the brake lever (you can see the pivot it slides onto).

Is this the wrong brake cable? The inner is also fatter than the old one - only by about half a mm but enough to prevent it from sliding in to the slot in the outer cable stop at the rear wheel.

Or do I have to ease that out with a fine file and weld on another bracket? The one that’s shown in the photos is pretty insubstantial really. The smaller bracket with the two holes I guess is for my new brake light switch - though it’s going to need extending to bring the switch out to where it can be actuated by the heel of the lever arm - but it’s much stronger than the other. Odd.

    All advice greatly appreciated. CIMG1625.JPG CIMG1626.JPG CIMG1629.JPG CIMG1637.JPG
