Monster 1000sie No Start After Falling Over

  1. Hello to all, wonder if your combined wisdom would help me solve a problem with my 2005 monster 1000sie. Bike was running perfectly until it blew over onto its right side during the last rather windy night. Found bike on its side about an hour after she had gone over. Stood bike up quick check with torch showed the only obvious damage was cracks on the plastic tail. Tried to start bike next morning she cranked away fuel pump primed but would not fire. Tried three times same thing crank pump primed nothing not even a back fire. Tested all the plugs good spark and smelled of petrol, battery is new fully charged, good fuel in tank. All lights and indicators work and horn. All fuses and relays ok as far as I can tell (used continuity tester). Wondering if the crankshaft position sensor got damaged but that’s on the left hand side. Any suggestions gratefully received thank yo

  2. Does it have a tip over sensor? Might need resetting or tapping if stuck

  3. An interesting one this, because it's cranking over and you've got a spark.

The usual suspects for damage would stop the starter motor cranking.
Kill switch, sidestand switch, Neutral switch etc.

I remembered this thread when in my workshop yesterday evening, uncovered my own M1000sie, and imagined it going over on it's right side to try and come up with something.
But if it's cranking over and the pump is running I'm a little stumped.

Have you checked all the fuses anyway?

The only possibility I could think of, and it's clutching at straws, is that the jolt of it hitting the ground has dislodged something to do with the fast idle(Choke) mechanism. The lever at the bars could probably feel as stiff if it was disconnected the other end.

Failing that, as Nottsbiker suggests, does it have a non-standard alarm or immobiliser fitted that could include a tip sensor to cut the engine after an accident?

  4. as Nasher says, a difficult one. reading all you have said, the no-start is defying logic but I think I would squirt some thin oil down each bore, refit plugs and try again as temporary lack of compression is only thing that hasn't been covered.

  5. Might the jolt have upset/broken the ignition relay? That way, everything will function as normal, but it’ll never start.

  6. The OP says he's getting a good spark BP.

Being a first time poster who's not been back since he may well have fixed it and not told us.

  7. Thank you all for your input, my bike hospital is my garden so dependent on weather which has been crap. This weekend looks like the weather will be better so will get to work on the bike. I will report back to the forum the outcome of my endeavours and once again thank you for your interest and expertise

  8. Back after illness, the sprag gear was knackered would not turn the motor fast enough to start, sold the bike as a project and managed to find a 2003 1000 sie which though two years older has done much fewer miles and only three owners from new and service history. All I have had to do was replace the brake lever and thank the powers that be the bike has a metal fuel tank so no swelling due to ethanol. Now to cleaning. Thank you all for your help and suggestions re the dead monster
