Hi, Can anyone point me in the direction of a switched live wire under the seat on a 2018 monster? Cheers
There's one to the left hand side of the headstock - provision for heated grips or satnav. You can even buy mating connectors to wire in whatever it is you want to power. If that's any use I can dig out the details (they'll be on a post in the archives here, somewhere).
Thanks MotoNik, I was aware of that one, it is the Mrs bike and she wants heated grips, SatNav and heated clothing power - not an easy task on a monster hence the request as I am thinking of making sure at least the SatNav and heated grips are ignition switched to avoid shall we say, any difficult discussions on tour! Thanks for your input though! Cheers
The heated grips ones do not supply any power unless you get them switched on in the software by a dealer. There is one connector there that will drive a USB socket or a satnav. Under the seat on the left side should be a USB socket, the supply to this is 12 volts switched. If you want a switched supply for aftermarket heated grips then take a live from the battery and use the satnav plug to power a relay to switch it on when ignition is on.
Hi, can I just check I have understood you correctly, the plug at the front is for SatNav/usb and the grips connect elsewhere? If they do connect elsewhere then with the usb under the seat I think I am sorted. I need 2/3 amps to run the keis jacket.
The original Ducati heated grips have two plugs on the right side of the headstock. If no Ducati grips are fitted then there are blanks fitted to the plugs and they are not live. The GPS plug can either be an identical white plug in the same place (that makes 3) which has an ignition controlled live, or a black plug on the left side, it seems to vary.
Thanks Bob T, Very much appreciated! I will investigate at the weekend, not sure whether to go Ducati grips or the thin laminate heated element route to keep grip thickness down. Do you know how the Ducati items are controlled as there is no dedicated heated grip switch unlike my multi. Cheers
The Ducati items are controlled through the dash with the function buttons on the left side. They are very good on my nieces new M821. I have aftermarket R&G grips on my Supersport, and the wife has thick gloves on her new M821!
Thanks for the info, my wife will use the heated grips and her keis heated gloves until it warms up! Cheers
Here we go, this is the mating half to the connector that's down near the headstock: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sumitomo...m23b71553f4:g:TekAAOSw3ydV6YHx&frcectupt=true Original thread here: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/electrical-accessory-socket-power-feed.44338/ I ended up buying the 12v to USB converter and powering it off the socket by the headstock. Additionally, I connected a very long lead direct to the battery with a cigarette socket on the end - that allows me to trail a lead from my bike into a tent, and charge stuff overnight. Worked a treat! My only reservation about the USB converter is the USB connectors aren't great quality, and they don't like being left out in the open - which isn't really a surprise, as that's not really what they're designed for. It's no coincidence that I've been designing a waterproof USB outlet for motorbikes...
Mine was a 2016, so that's entirely possible. Apologies if that was misleading. Plenty of connectors on ebay - I suspect it'll be easy enough to find something suitable.
