Monster/Monster+ Monster 796 And Oxford Heated Grips

  1. Hey,
    How's it going?

Got a bit of a problem when installing the heated grips on my beloved 796.
Of course the left grip went on without any issues but the throttle one is doing my head in.
Initially I've trimmed the throttle plastic tube thingy (underneath the grip) to allow the new grip to slide on at all. But then I've discovered a problem as the grip does not go all the way and leaves a white plastic ring thing sticking out and physically there's no way to fit it without trimming it.
Question is - can I? Can I just sand the thing and be done with it?
Did you have a similar issue?

  2. Had the same thing when I fitted heated grips to my GSX1400, I just used a dremel to trim it off and the grips went on a treat. Remember to put a relay in line if you are taking power from the battery or you might have a flat battery when you need it.

  3. Thanks for your response!
According to Oxford it shouldn't drain be battery as it has some sort of a protection, question is to what extent I trust them ;)

  4. My solution was to buy a used damaged throttle assembly of eBay and cut off the bit of the OE grip that covers that white nylon bit. I then trimmed the Oxford grip so that I could refit the bar end mirror. I also didn’t use a relay and went straight to the battery, not had any issues with flat battery, it seems to auto switch off and when you restart it remembers the last setting used.
