Monster 821 Rear Tyre Options

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by SHR61, Aug 6, 2015.

  1. My wife's Monster 821 is very close to needing a new rear tyre, but the choice of replacements in the standard 180/60-17 is limited to the OEM Pirelli and a Dunlop. Both are sports tyres and as the bike is being used for touring, the life of the OEM is not very good.

The obvious thought is to fit a 180/55-17, but the rolling radius is 2.8% less than the OEM fitment and I was wondering if this would have any impact on the DTC and ABS?

  2. I would be interested in this outcome I want to put PR4's on, and the closest PR4 is on the rear is 180/55/17 ? is can you put that size on the rear?

That ? has all ready been answered Dealer says not a problem fitting PR4's being a 180/55/17

  3. That's different to what the supplying dealer told me. Their stance is that the 180/55 tyre would cause problems with the ABS and DTC sensors as it has a smaller rolling radius. I think it's time to talk to the tyre manufacturers and see what they say. I still can't understand why Ducati chose this size for the M821, given the poor choice of tyres in this size.

  4. The radius is like 9mm Difference overall if I have worked that out correct so I guess 4.5 mm lower, My Dealer did state they have fitted PR4s to other Ducati bikes as well as Monsters where sizes are different with no issues I assume.

I have ordered PR4's and the Dealer will fit them.

  5. If you can keep us informed MaDProFF it would be appreciated.

  6. If that's the case it's like the difference between a new tyre and a worn one, so if that affects the DTC/ABS etc. then there's a problem...

  7. I done over 400 miles on PR4, and so far it is great, and tbh if that is the difference between a new and worn, I would have thought that ABS and DTC should account for the wear.
Cannot see how it will ever effect either tbh, and it is the rear remember re abs.

  8. No warning lights have come up on the dash from the ABS and DTC since you fitted it?
