Another career ruined by Ducati. What has he done since he left Ducati? He was installed at Norton for all of two months before, other than that he's not been heard of.
When he remodelled the SS to the ie he used his previous supermono styling but it didn't really work, the 999 was a brave look to the future, the sport classics are his dream of recreating 70's bikes from his youth. All 3 designs failed to sell at the time, partly due to fashion and getting compared to the bike they superceded. I thought the sports classics were great but not practical for the age group they were aimed at and also overpriced. When they went on sale, for the 9k that bought a Sport 1000S (dual seat with fairing) you could buy a S4RS, testastretta monster with ohlins all round.
The designs were good, if a little bit advanced for the crowd of the time. I'm still waiting for the fuglystrada to come into fashion... I seem to remember reading he had been designing boats in the meantime, then he moved to Norton, soon after leaving while claiming he hadn't been paid.
"Pierre Terblanche is acclaimed as one of the world’s leading motorcycle designers, responsible for creating iconic desmo V-twin models for Ducati, as well as the controversial 999 Superbike, which has since become a prized design icon" I own a prized design icon.
