Working through some preventative maintenance on my new to me 996. Already fitted Helibars and Corbin seat so bike now almost rideable without causing excruciating pain..... Next on the list is to swap out the old RR for a MOSFET. Managed to source one from a MTS1200. I've already swapped over the RR on my S4 916 using Triumph leads, dead easy plug and play with no faffing about with soldering etc. Is is the same process for the 996? Cheers, Alan
I changed over to a MOSFET (From a Yamaha) on my S4 about 5 years ago. Before the MOSFET I fitted a new Electrex RR - it went on fire whilst I was riding - not ideal. The MOSFET is brilliant, it's runs so much cooler than the original, voltage is constant and I've had the same battery since fitting (with the old RR I used to change battery every other year). No issues with electrics or charging since fitting, hence why I'm changing the 996 as well now.
just to add an Anorak note - one of the Triumph loom connectors doesn't have a retaining clip as per the Ducati original connector so you could add a tie-wrap for complete peace of mind. My 1098 plug was not that snug so was a good reason to do this.
