I have recently fitted a Mono seat unit on my 916 Biposto, obviously the subframe retains the brackets for the rear footrests, will there be any problems with the Mot tester because the rear footrests are not fitted? TIA.
If there is no seat pad for a pillion you won’t need footrests, if there were a pad you would. However my lads bike passed with a pillion seat and no foot pegs. MOT passes/fails I’ve found to be contradictory.
What he said. I had a similar issue many years ago (I think it was rear seat cowl with rear footrests fitted). The tester threatened me with an Advisory, but I knew him quite well and he was probably winding me up!
As it will be presented as a monoposta, the answer should be no. I would however find something to put in the pillion foot peg mounting holes. Ideally something like a puncture repair mushroom that you can push into the threaded hole. Andy
You are right, it is a funny one. common sense on seeing the mono seat and the fact that you can't even attach the passenger pegs ought to prevail but i have feeling that if you got a "jobsworth" of a tester, and he saw the bike listed as a biposto then he could run awkward if he felt like it. I got a fail from a place in Leatherhead once, got me to go home and fit the rear pegs - didn't go there again.
Had it both ways....some have failed when ive removed the pegs - that being said the pegs have been off for the last 4 or 5 years and its past (My z1000)....and i leave the rear seat on to rest my messenger bag...no matter what i always travel with that... Same for my rsv4 and hyper...theyve all got rear seats and no footpegs.
"However my lads bike passed with a pillion seat and no foot pegs." - probably the only combination that might be worth a fail (IMO). You can imagine some idiot trying to ride pillion without footrests!
If I remember correctly, pillion footpegs and no seat is ok, but no pillion footpegs with pillion seat is not, unless there are handles to hold on to! Madness....who makes these rules up!
If its a mono with no pegs is fine, regardless of the sub frame so no need to fill the holes, pillion seat fitted it needs pegs, no pilion seat no pegs.
Look at it another way, they're just mounting holes, hardpoints. They might have been there to mount a shock remote or alternatively allow you to fit up a pannier system. They mean nothing until they're given purpose. No rear seat foam, no passanger can be taken, therefore no pegs required, it's that simple.
I thought what @cookster was saying was if you had a rear seat, you had to have pegs. If you don't, you don't.
