Could be classed as new rules, could be down to the MOT tester....i dont know...anyway...highly non productive afternoon....took the hyper in for MOT - it failed, MOT guy was nice enough to not even start - i missed the blown fork seal....so i pitched in with "my other bike needs its mot done too..." to which he said if you nip home and get it ill fail that one instead! not far off the truth... So, hyper failed on... 1. The rear footpegs missing (i should have known but forgot) - ive got blankers on there... 2. The little LED above the light wasnt there (this was ok last year - mines disconnected) but not this year. 3. Blown fork seal...which is just me and concentrating on getting the engine back in and the bike back together... 4. This surprised me...ive got a stock number plate which i stick on the bike for MOT's Regulation size letters, numbers and spacing. Apparently now you have to have all the BSEN lettering down underneath along the bottom...the same plate ive used and its been fine...now its not. Zed failed on. 1. LED not working above the numberplate. 2. Horn not working...should have checked....! Most surprising was my full sc project race system on the Hyper (with baffles in) and the full system on the zed with baffles out...were both totally fine from a noise point of view...
Sorry - ill try to explain better....you go buy a bike from a shop and they print their own numberplate with their name along the bottom along with the BS EN number for the plate....its gotta have that on there now...my plate that passed last year is just literally the yellow background and the letter and numbers...
Me i got failed last year on the Ps1000 with the number plate size but they provided me with one of theirs for £20but i said you did the other bike in march with the same size plate, but they said that is manufactured before 1998!?
OK thanks. Out of interest, is this at the MOT place you normally use or it a different place? I am asking because I am fairly sure that rule has been in place for years but the testers typically don't mention it, or fail the vehicle because of this.
I had an MOT last year when I was considering selling. The independent dealer found several advisories which would mean the price he could give me would be impacted. Mysteriously I had it re-MoT'd at a Ducati independent having done no work to the warped discs or loose head bearings and they had mysteriously resolved themselves!
That was Riders Bristol...the MOT guy was ok...just kinda shrugged his shoulders and said its the new rules...i called them yesterday hoping for a saturday slot but he had a cancellation for today hence the rush...i dont mind....i was more than polite with him....theres no point in pissing of the mot tester - the only thing that'll then happen is your bike will fail on even more stuff
Not worried about the zed - thatll take 2 minutes to sort out, although the hyper may take a little longer (sorting the fork seal out)...
Before you go stripping the forks it's worth trying a seal buddy, it worked on my bike, couldn't believe the muck it fetched out. Steve
Interesting! My various MOTs are not due until next spring, so by then it will be obvious if all MOT stations are actually doing enforcing this or not. It does seem a load of bollocks though if all or most number plates now need to be replaced on UK vehicles. There are 31.3 million cars so at least 50 million plates needed for them, and another 6 million for bikes. How much plastic will that create for the landfill? Makes the plastic shopping bag pollution savings seem rather in vain!
