Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by peter james, Apr 17, 2013.

  1. I bought the motogp app for the iPhone , for my yearly trip to Le Mans , gives live timing and all sorts of info on the 3 classes.
This will be the first time I've had a smart phone abroad, how will I get on with battery life all day at the track. Any tips plz

  2. The same as you would at home

  3. Hi Peter, can't speak for your battery life with that app, but I have a cigar lighter socket discretely attached so I can charge my phone when I ride abroad for a few days.

  4. Well seeing as how I'm camping and no genny for recharge what with qualies and race day then I guess I'm knackered as my phone needs charge every day

ammend that thanks Pat we'll have the car on a roundabout .

  5. Peter, disable location services, or make sure any app using location services like photo, maps, tripadvisor etc is off as that drains the battery by constantly hunting GPS to locate your phone.

  6. Won't you be charged for using data stuff abroad?

  7. I don't know , I suppose I should ask my provider , thanks more useful info

  8. Which will kind of defeat the object of the app won't it?

  9. Data abroad is horrendously expensive. Easy to rack up a £40 bill in a few days. I bet this app is pretty data hungry.

  10. Data is what will cripple you

  11. Charger: you can get the solar ones which are ok but not fantastic...and data abroad?! Check your price plan...

  12. Not all apps use location services and most that do will still function without it. Clearly those that are based on it like maps won't, but struggle to see how a moto gp app requires to know where you are to work?

  13. Cant see why you'd need location but you would need 3G to connect I'd imagine, unless they have wifi at the track. Even if you have to pay, that will likely be way cheaper than roaming charges

  14. As others have mentioned make sure you turn off bluetooth and wifi and turn down the brightness on your screen to stretch the battery - that said you can get charger pack things - basically a battery that you plug your phone into that will do a few charges so crank the app up and enjoy - got it myself and its a cracker:)
