Hey guys random question. Do any of you know/have experience, in whether it is legal to have any LED lighting mounted on your bike in the UK? From my reading online I have found that as long as the following don't apply you're OK: * cannot have any lights pointing forward other than white * cannot have any light pointing back other than red * cannot have any lights blinking other than orange turning indicators * on the side lights are fine as long as they: * are not red or blue * are not blinking * the source of the light is not visible, just the glow I'm not thinking of doing anything overboard, but possibly some little highlight glow to the engine ( I understand this might not be AT ALL your style or something you would do ) If this is however something any of you have done, PICS??!
Not on my Ducati but on another bike I had a blue glow. Rode around central London daily and didn't get bothered by the police. Mine had a little switch on though so if any police got upset I could turn them off, but none did.
I was trying to think of something helpfull to say..................nope its gone.......never mind. mum always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything. -------------------------------- --------------------------------
HAHA I knew this would be an interesting subject when I brought it up. I have actually ordered some neons from ebay, and excited to start on it. Spent about 4GBP so not worried if It looks stupid and have to take them off. I was thinking of not doing anything over the top but putting a strip of neons under each fairing on each side to give the engine a nice green (green hornet) glow, also thinking of putting a strip just over each wheel to have that glowing wheel effect, I'm planning on putting a 3 way switch to them, on/off/throttle the throttle will have an dimmer attached to it, so if I switch it to throttle as I rev the engine will glow more ;P any thoughts? I will post pictures when this is done, of course unless it looks so dumb I'm ashamed to post
You've answered your own question really haven't you? I have a set of white LED lights fitted to the headlight unit of my RC8R (factory fitted not after market) which are obviously legal as the bike conforms to whatever standards etc etc. I think solid white at the front, red at the back and orange on the side are the legally accepted combination anything blue, red and flashing will attract unwanted attention. of course a Pan European, high vis vest, white helmet and copious fluorescent panels when fitted with blue strobe lights are acceptable if you are an advanced motorcyclist, ride at 69 mph in the middle lane and talk with a nasal twang whist smoking a pipe.
... I would not mind closing this thread myself ... I thought it would be an interesting topic and see if anyone has done anything fun / interesting ... but looking like a make fun of it contest ... kinda pointless ... if someone can close the thread i dont mind.
If you want to look like an Christmas tree on speed, go ahead and fit them..........I need a good laugh..... AL.
