Haven't used the website but done many of the roads the mention. For my garmin, you had to place the file in a folder and then you can see it when you 'load' route. I assume it hasn't changed. Where are you planning to go? If it's northwest then there aren't many bad roads. Just pick some and go or ask here for ideas.
sorry dont use the site , but easy,, just get to glasgow ( no sat nav required ) then take A82 north for and keep on going,, i dont know of any boring roads or scenery after that,, enjoy..
