I agree with John £66k isn't much for an MP. Even MP's deserve a fair pay. The civil servants get paid way more. A lot more. A fucking lot more. (obviously talking about the execs, not the fireman, nurses or teachers etc)
They do, although I can't remember the details. Their pension rights accrue very quickly to very generous levels.
On the face of it the salary isn't enough given their repsonsibility. But, add expense benefits, pension, gold goodbye at end of term, and you cam go from being a regular jo electrician earning 35k a year the hard way to pretty much not having to work again post term....and if you want to companies queue up to give you a job but the fact remains. If you want real world people (and I'm sure even AndyB wants that ;-) ) then you have to make sure they can afford to carry out all their duties and support their families
Civil servant run the country. Politicians just set policy and fight for the departments budget. Well according to Sr Humphrey thats how it is.
They are just the front men. The people who really run the country are the unelected EU Commissioners. I feel another thread coming on.
