Mts Ds1000 The Engine Idle At 3000rpm

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by El Vikingo Tropical, Sep 7, 2023.

  1. When I start the engine at my old MTS idle rice up to a constant 3000rpm, I can’t find why?

Anyone have clue what on earth make this happen?

Al wires is ok and correctly adjusted!

  2. Idle control valve (stepper motor) stuck open?

If you are lucky, then flushing it through with carb cleaner may un-gum it

  4. I have event tried disconnecting the stepper, but same failure happen.
I have been trying different maps at ecu as well but nothing change.

  5. If it's gummed open disconnecting it won't make any difference, although I'm not sure if it defaults to fully closed to fully open when not power to it. Neither will different maps make a difference. You are just going to have to get in there and see what it's doing. As @chrisw says, flushing it with carb cleaner may free it.
The only other possible cause is an air leak on the engine side of the throttle bodies which is quite unlikely although not altogether impossible.
Or, thinking about, it perished hose connecting the throttle bodies to the stepper motor but most likely the stepper motor.

  6. Chris. I'm really sorry, I think that's a Fuel Pressure regulator you've identified.
And the item #14 is the TPS.
I don't think there is an idle control valve in the system

    EDIT
The above is completely wrong, ignore me

  7. It’s the Idle Control Valve connected to the throttle body inlets. How would it control fuel pressure when the fuel circuit is shown at 1.

  8. If I unconnected TPS (14) then rews goes down, but of course engine doesn’t run correctly!

  9. The TPS tells the ECU when throttle closed and throttle wide open (and all points in between). Have you done a TPS reset? Sorry, I do not know if the 1000DS is a linear or non-linear TPS. If it is the former then it can be reset using the likes of JPDiag, Scan5MX, TuneECU. If it is the latter then it is a multimeter job.

  10. So perhaps a gummed up TPS then? The same item that gave a snatchy throttle on the Raptor...

I've heard people carefully drill a hole in the TPS casing to allow cleaner to be squirted in.... I'd rather just buy a new one for a £100 or so.

  11. failing TPS alone could cause these symptoms - has it been adjusted/reset recently/ do you still have the unbroken factory "blobs" of yellow paint on the TPS fixings?

    posted at same time! ^

  12. With the same conclusion :)
