Multi 1200 Fork Seal Blown, Recommendations For Hertfordshire

Discussion in 'Suspension help' started by Desmoboy, Jun 17, 2020.

  1. I have a blown fork seal on my Multi and because it is an MOT failure i need to deal with it pronto. MCT in Stowmarket would be my #1 choice but they are very busy.

Does anyone have a recommendation that is close enough to Hertfordshire please.

I am not going to do it myself before anyone tells me how easy it is.

    Thanks

  3. @Desmoboy Couldnt be much closer to you http://www.fasterbikes.com/

They have set up the suspension on 2 of my bikes previously and done a great job. They carry out MOTs too I believe.

  4. For reasons that i wont go into in public, Not a chance thankyou.

The bike is booked into Ducati Coventry for next Monday.

  5. Just out of curiosity how much are they charging you?
I need a forkseal done on my Multi and Ducati Dublin are my nearest. They definitely know how to put together a bill.

  6. 1.5 hours labour
fork seal is apparently about £60

Haven't asked any more than that , i trust them and have always been happy with what they do.

  7. I've known this lot since they started.
Very keen on taking large amounts of wonga off you for not much work.
My recent repair to the Monster was AFTER they had it in for repair and asked the owner of a huge amount of cash to cover there investigations; saying it needed a new loom.
That is after they fitted a new ignition switch and nearly got the bolt in the engine.

  8. Are you sure it's blown?
.... you can get grit trapped up there

Try using a tool like this or old film negatives cut to shape to try an ease out the dirt...
Worth a try... used it on mine loads of times.
    Amazon about £7

  9. Hi Aircon
I ordered one of those sealmates last week and it arrived yesterday.
Actually i think it might have done the trick, i will have a better idea this evening when i get home from work. I will have done a 60 mile round trip by then, which should be a good test.
If so i will cancel the JHP booking.

  10. Speak as you find, no problem. I have had them rebuild a set of forks for me. Very pleased with their service, price and workmanship.

  11. @Expat Jack found this when I lifted the tank......
So I agree, speak as you find.

  12. Try getting them to 'fess up to that if it got into the chamber. Well you'd probably never be able to recognise anything in fact.

  13. Not good clearly, and your experience does not sound good.
I have had a good experience on shock rebuild but I’ve only used them for that and this post is about forks.

  14. Good point, but recent workmanship has been questionable.
    I think we've given a balanced review between us?
Note I've used them on my early Kawasaki's etc with no problem... back in the 1980's :yum

  15. Yup, I think that’s fair. They are Öhlins, Ktech and Nitron approved so should know their way around a fork seal.
I have my own little one man band workshop for all things tyres and non Ducati. He is great.

  16. I've had all my Öhlins rebuilt by FTR Suspension.
One time I purchased a brand new TTX electronic rear shock for a very cheap price - supposed to be display only.
It sat on my desk. I wanted to take it apart to see how they worked.
One end said "Warning - Pressurised system ...blah blah blah"... so I thought don't take out that screw.
The other screw didn't have a label......... sooooooo
Lovely oil print relief on the wall ceiling of a human.

  17. strangely enough after seeing their recommendation here I gave them a ring re setting up my skyhook settings, sag etc. I had tried myself, but honestly I want an expert to have a look. So I rang and discussed saying I currently had a sag on the front of about 50mm but not sure on my pre load settings, ride height etc. The chap I spoke to said he was not too familiar with the Skyhook and felt it was not worth TRUK to set up as the system would always override the work that would have been done. To be fair he did say he would look into Skyhook and I should call back in a few days, but I won’t as they are obviously not at all familiar with skyhook so need to look elsewhere.

  18. Are you talking about the fasterbikes lot in stevenage that i was recommended?

If so, my issue is not with the quality of their work, which i have no experience of. I have other worries about leaving a bike and keys with that company.

  19. In all my years of off road racing I’ve never done a fork seal and believe me the front wheel takes far more of a hammering than any road bike. However I’ve had many many weeping seals due to a small bit of crap. As it says above these things work, make your own from a piece of plastic milk bottle cut to shape.
