Multi 1200 on a short tour to Bordeaux, findings.

  1. Hey all, last week I decided to go to Bordeaux to escape the rain and have a wee spin.
Well firstly I escaped no rain as it pissed down the 5 days i was away, at one point i had to shelter under a bridge as the Hailstones were too painful to ride through, was like being peppered by a paint ball specialist!
The bike ran great, no missing, no spluttering, and allayed any fears I had about being out in the wet for days on end, I ran it on Touring all the way as I wanted to maximise the Traction control, never noticed it kicking in at any point but good to know it was there.
Comfort was great, 13 hour saddle days and my bottom was as pert as Kylie's.
Chain was good, good clean and lube before I left, couple of quick sprays en route, and still at correct tension on return.
As I found last year touring Scotland 6th gear is very tall, takes a wee while before you get used to it being in top, feels like your being slightly unkind as it is such a low rpm but its happy to lug away.
Uprated HID headlights and LED spots at one point I am sure saved me a Y-front stainer or worse, raining, lots of spray, Monsieur frenchman started overtaking an HGV, he was committed but bottled it when he saw my light spectacle heading toward him, I seriously doubt he would have seen me on normal lights, phew.
I also left the crud catcher off, I think it looks far better and the bike doesn't seem any dirtier for it not being on.
Problems found, well the left hand indicator light on the dash started glowing lightly, then another dash light came on, this could be the earthing problem that some others have had.
Gearbox, if you are not sure-footed it can go into a false neutral going 3rd to 2nd.
The Dordogne region is beautiful, go if you can, the Multi was great, just shame about the pouring rain!
I forgot to de-speed camera my sat-nav, but wasn't stopped. I went on no Peage's, all Nationals and a few miles motorway. Saves a fortune and not much slower really.

  2. Great report. Can we have some pics please? We havent seen rain for ages. There's a drought on, you know!

  3. lol

....yes nice quicky review summary Stevie, thanks. Photos always good ;-)
Re the dash light issue, I suspect water penetration is the issue, seems quite likely in view of all the wet weather riding you were doing!

  4. I had the same problems with the dash, but this stayed and I had it replaced under warranty. Better keep an eye on it! :)
