Hi All, Bought my 1200S touring in Feb, it is a 2010 model, with only 7000 miles. Just before taking it in for a service the engine light and" DES preload" warning came on. Went out after a recycle, but on the day of the service it stayed on after altering from "rider only" to "rider + bags". Dealer says it needs a new BBS suspension control box (£850!). Very fortunately for me, bike has 2 weeks to run on the extended guarantee so hopefully fixed soon now good weather has arrived. He says if it is not that, it could be the rear shock, which is mega expensive. Has anyone else had this problem? Dealer says ok to ride, but I,m not keen to go far, what do you all think? Cheers
2 things: 1. I believe its ok to use it - refrain from switching modes. 2. I also believe any defect occuring within 6 months of purchase is deemed to have existed at purchase so is the dealers responsibility. & he has to prove otherwise. The amendments to the Sales of Goods Act (EC Directive 1999/44/EC) that came into force on 31st March 2003 now place the burden of proof on you ‘the car dealer’ for the first six months after a purchase. If your customer makes a claim in the first six months it will be up to you to prove the vehicle was correct when it left your premises Motor Trade Warranty Advice and Recommendations-Used Car Warranties, Dealer Guarantees and Service Contracts MIke
The DES pre-load error can have three different reasons. The Ducati dealers have a document (or service bulletin) where they can see in which case the reason for the failure is the SCU, the rear suspension or the front forks. Ask them to make a read out of the error memory and the combination of the errors should show you the part(s) that have to be replaced. In the past most of the reasons were SCU failures but in some cases the fork or the rear suspension has to be changed as well. In case of SCU failures it's a really good idea to take the new SCU (semi-active) from Öhlins. I think it's less then half the price with better functionality.
If you are near Heathrow and need to borrow either the new or old one PM me. Clearly I'm going to ask for a deposit, but lets face it I'm not going to neeed it for a few weeks!!!
