Just had my first service (650 miles) on my new enduro , so expected the next service to be either @ 9k miles or 12 months. i.e.. april 2019, not so , the dealer informs me that the next service is at 9k miles ( which i won't do in a year ) or 12 months from the date of the P.D.I not 12 months from the date of the first service......... feel like I'm having my cap nailed on a bit.
No, your dealer is absolutely right and this should have been explained to you before signing on the dotted line. The 600 mile service changes the oil and filter that came with the bike from assembly and factory test. There is also a visual inspection to make sure that averything is as it should be after the pdi. The annual service is exactly that, on the annversary of the pdi. To be fair the running in period is critical and several oil and filter changes is not a bad thing. My TVR Cimera required a major service every 5000 miles and got an oil change inbetween services at about 2500 miles. Andy
Cheers Andy, as you say it would have been better had the dealer explained the service schedule at the time of purchase, but hey ho, I'm still loving the bike & will have it serviced as prescribed by them.
If this is the case , why hasn’t my April 2017 registered multistrada 1200S asked for its yearly service yet.i know it had its 600 miles done in July 2017, now on 4000 miles.
Just checked the service booklet and it states that yearly service not due until 7/7/18 . Which is one year from last service not PDI.
Suppose I've been fortunate in getting the first service out of the way within 7 weeks of the bike having its P.D.I. For arguments sake lets say it had taken me 4 months to get the first 650 miles covered, i could have been in a position of the bike requiring its (9k / 12 month) service within the next 8 months. Assume the dealer knows what they are talking about , but seems like a bit of a money making racket to me basing service schedules on P.D.I dates.
624miles is the run in period mineral oil out,....good stuff in. Remember to read up about not going above (page335 of multistrada 1200 enduro owners manual) 7,000 rev's. You need to wait till 2,500km / 1,500miles or if you do be smooth up & smooth down. Not jerky & lots of gear changes at different speeds on quiet lanes. Mine has just clocked 20,000miles at a very quiet meet up point on Shaftsbury hill.
