Multi temperature

  1. Should I be worried that my fan didn't kick in (when my bike was stopped) until it got to 103 degrees?

Also, the oil light flickered on and the engine cut out (at about 108 degrees) while I was queuing in traffic. Was too noisy to tell if the fan had come on. It started again fine and the rest of the ride was normal. The oil level was fine when I got home.

  2. I wouldn't be alarmed by the fan not kicking in before high temp, that's pretty normal, it always goes down (mine does anyway). Did you have a warning about really high temperature, or did it only reach 108? Were you changing gear, or moving very slowly when the bike cut out? Certain productions have had problems with engine cutting out when downshifting, but it usually happens when downshifting at speeds, and there was an ECU update for that. If you haven't experienced the problem several times, I wouldn't be too worried.

  3. Thanks for that, you've put my mind at rest. I was crawling (barely) in 1st and came to a halt and it went on a few seconds and cut out. Like you say, I'll keep an eye on it and won't worry unless it becomes a regular thing. The temp didn't get as high as the "high" warning coming on. Must just be me being used to my Fazer, which cuts in at about 90 degrees.

  4. It had me worried the first time I was doing city traffic at 30 celsius. :) But it has too big fans, so it has always coped for me.

  5. For reference the update is 822 and is under a VOSA recording it used to manifest itself at low speed.

  6. Thanks CW. Is that another recall job to be done then?

  7. The first official recall (822) came out in Jan 2011 but had been available in the back end of 2010, I would think that all bikes post Jan 2011 should have had this carried out as either part of build or pre delivery checks, it should be checked when your bike goes in for a service as part of the normal routine unless they have been told not to carry out any ECU updates.

  8. I guess they haven't done any updates......

My bike cut out again at 5mph yesterday. And it's started showing a "DES rear rebound" error too. Guess something got fried  Bike hasn't even got 2k miles on it yet.
