I've just had a centre stand fitted to my 1100 (2008) which has the stock exhaust system. Took it out for a spin and found the stand grounded on very slight lean angles. I've inspected it and it seems to be fitted correctly, but it does appear to be close to the ground. Anyone else had problems? Thanks in advance for any advice.
The spring is very strong a pulls the stand up to its resting postion against a bracket protruding from the catalytic converter.
The road was flat. First discovered it on a roundabout. The bike is rather new to me and I wouldn't know if it's been lowered or not. The suspension setting allows me to get both feet comfortably flat on the ground. I have a 31" inside leg. I can't see adjusting the preload effective, because it would need to raise the bike about 2".
Roundabouts normally have camber, often quite a lot. No road (almost) is flat or the rain wont drain off. Cant remember of the old stye had a tie rod for ride height? Its been years since I owned one.
I've just had a look at the bike and yes it has a tie rod with what looks like a couple of adjustment nuts on it. Because of my limited knowledge of this bike I'll seek professional help to have it adjusted etc. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Dave.
Height is adjustable by linkage not preload - easy to spot on the right of the shock . It does sounds lower than stock if you’re flat footing , but the centre stand is going to limit your clearance
http://issuu.com/ducatiomaha/docs/mts1100_usa_08_ed00?e=1222863/10926450 page 80 81 it's the rod that adjusts the height shows you how to adjust https://www.manualslib.com/manual/617318/Ducati-Multistrada-1100-S.html?page=45
Thats probably its it will likely be reduced in height by previous owner. Bear in mind the front and rear may have been dropped, so check the height of the forks too (how much fork shows above the top yoke). Its easy enough to do, unless the tie rod is seized and I am pretty sure one is reverse thread (link above may confirm) but it is years since I had my last Ducati with an adjustable tie rod. Get the spanners and have a go
Dave, if you're not confident, then getting a suspension set up just for you is quite cheap by a proper suspension company and would be my suggestion. What i'd probably do is post in the general ducati section https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/forums/ducati-general-discussion.16/ and ask something like , recommended suspension specialist in/near (your rough area or county), you should get some good responses
I've now noticed the forks have been adjusted. They are showing 1" above the yolk. Therefore, it's been lowered. So as advised it's off to the garage next week for the rear suspension to be looked at. I'm just hoping the rear can be adjusted higher, instead of having a new shocker fitted etc.
Easy work so I’d have them put it back befirbyou decide on changing anything. Shock stays put, it’s just a couple of spanner turns to adjust
It is easy to put it back to factory but as you say, if you are unsure let someone specialised in doing it to get it right for you. Make sure when they say they have done it that you check it both with you on and off the bike. No good it looking super in the shop, your arse sits on it then its height drops. It also helps with getting your leg over, not humpage but getting the mid balance between being able to get on it as well as raising it to a level that doesn't ground
They all look like that ... usually 5 lines showing at stock height , but it doesn’t mean the rear hasn’t been lowered . It can definitely be adjusted
Hello Analog Dave, I hope this is the right way off asking a question. Did you solve the problem with the ride hight position? Is it possible to post some pictures from the centre stand mount fitting? I have the same bike, I do not have the original 1100 stand, instead I will give it a try with a ST2 stand. But pictures would be off great value to me! Greetings from the north of Holland, Nico.
@Analog Dave hasn’t been seen for 49 weeks ps. Why don’t you introduce yourself properly in the newbies section too please?
Hi, I'm still around... I was notified by email about this post. In answer to your question I had a professional company adjust my suspension to the correct settings and it now has plenty of ground clearance. https://www.kais-ohlins.co.uk/ I'm not sure if the stand is a stock item or afterermarket. I'll post a close up of the mounting bracket later.
