Multistrada 1200 Dvt - Wonky Fairing

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Teriyaki Man, Jul 4, 2015.

  1. Hi Guys,

I just wanted to say hello and ask a question.

I'm new to Ducati have just bought a new 2015 Multistrada 1200, coming from a KTM 990SMT. I'm really liking the bike so far, but I have to say, it's not light years ahead of the SMT - that was a really good bike. Anyway....

I have a problem with the Multi. The tank is not mounted properly and is not level (slight lean too the right when viewed from the seat) and this throws the nose section of the fairing out of alignment with the upper fairing section giving the front of the bike a twisted appearance. This is really noticeable and even my wife spotted it. My dealer (Ducati Manchester) tells me that Ducati have acknowledged it as a known issue, but there is no fix forthcoming yet. I just have to wait (6 weeks and counting so far)

Has anybody else had this problem?

  2. thats sounds a bit shit.

So its a mounting point thing is it? its not like you can reseat the fairing panels and everything straightens up?

  3. ;)

  4. Quality!! I was sat on the fence on whether to take the plunge on a new 1200S DVT by chopping in my Honda Crosstourer but topics like this kind of underline the ongoing questionability of Ducati reliability, fit and finish. For now I'll probably stick with the the big H. Good luck getting it all sorted out, I bet your well miffed spotting that particular fault.

  5. I think it comes down to Dealers tbh, I cannot imagine some dealers with send a bike out like that, and there there is dealers that would strip it down and rebuild it correctly. I can only imagine it was a build issue that got past quality control on some bikes.

  6. the fairing aren't actually put on at the factory, its the freight forwarding company that do that along with the mirrors and possibly exhaust end can if i remember correctly.

I did the factory tour a couple of weeks back and they get crated in Italy after testing practically naked with all scratchable and snapable parts sent along with them.

Still, its somebodies job to get it right isn't it.

  7. So a known poor dealer cant be arsed and this is another example of unreliable ducatis? Stay with Honda matey, you dont deserve Italian ;)

    Joke btw

  8. Good point. The fairings are part of the crating up and dispatching process, not the factory production line.

  9. When considering on spending nigh on £18,000:00p I'm just after something close to perfection. Silly me ;-) think I've been spoilt in the past by much more inexpensive machines is all

  10. Go check out a ferrari matey, or a lambo. Or a GT40. Then come back and tell us if you get perfection for £150k ;)

  11. I actually don't blame the dealer for this. In fairness to him, when I pointed the issue out he was embarrassed that he never spotted it.

I'm pretty miffed at Ducati's lack of proactivity about this though - to this day nobody has contacted me about this and the only way I get information is to chase them.

It wasn't quite £18k, but at £14k I did expect better.

Open the throttle and thoughts of wonky fairings disappear though! :)

  12. Take it to another dealer matey. or just take it off and put it back on yourself. Have never heard of it being 'a known issue' before this thread, maybe its a simple question of poor pdi

  13. Well just for starters you get a very decent Porsche for that sort of money. Why should anyone have to accept niggles, imperfections and make compromises when spending that sort of wedge?????

  14. You do need to blame the dealer though as they all have had the fix info from Ducati

  15. Go have a look close up. There will be dodgy finish, and you will be having recalls and glitches. Plus if the thing isnt pdi'd properly, thats hardly Ducatis fault

  16. Regardless of who's fault it is, crap manufacturing or lazy incompetence by supplying dealer it's hardly a fantastic value for money experience for the owner is it?

  17. Just need to ensure blame is where blame is due then :upyeah:

  18. Hi there, got my DVT S with touring option in very early May, I have had a few glitches and whilst it was in SMC Sheffield last week for engine warning light and fuel sender issues (again) another own highlighted similiar issues to me, we then looked at my bike and all okay except for R/H front black panel (with Ducati embossed on it) was not correctly fitted, he said he had issues with all his panels, his supplying dealer was Sheffield and miine was Ducati Leeds, mine was easily sorted, slid it forward and refitted ensuring even force across the length, all looks good again.
Great bike but niggles getting slightly tedious now, Ducati recovery was more interested in survey than actual faults, you have to laugh, they sent an AA man who did not have the diagnostic lead when it first went bang and a towing frame in the back of his "little" van and he refused to take it to Sheffield becuase he was scared he would mark the bike from his straps so I had to recover it myself, well done AA
