Multistrada 1200s Vs Diavel

  1. Hello all, just after a bit of advise or some tips really. I currently ride an old Multistrada 1100 but got rear ended whilst stationary a few weeks ago, the insurance company pick the bike up tomorrow but I'm sure the frame is bent and they'll write it off. I've been looking and am torn between another Multistrada 1200s or a Diavel. Does anyone have experience of both? Any advise would be great, many thanks. Darren.

  2. Had both in the family, ridden both, 2 entirely different bikes. My girlfriend rode her 2011 Diavel everywhere, daily, local touring, continental touring and even tracked it. She loved it but not the weight nor the standard suspension which is very average. I rode a 2012 Multistrada until recently, 55,000 miles and it would have been my forever bike if I could have found affordable European recovery for touring. IMO, the Multistrada is the better handling of the 2 and the more practical luggage wise. Both suffer with similar electronics issues, MAP sensors and fuel gauge, the Diavel has a weak rear suspension rose joint which she needed changing twice and it’s an awkward job. The Diavel is not a cruiser, it’s not lazy enough and needs revving and it is not a sports bike, despite its aspirations and being ballistic. I’m biased but I think the 1200 Multistrada can be more fun with the correct tyres and is definitely more comfortable if you are tall. Just my take. Andy

  3. I have a 1260S multistrada and can't now ever imagine riding anything else...came from Ducati sorts bikes
Rode a friend's Africa twin yesterday, no grunt, no torque...

  4. Thanks Andy for your input, I think I was already convinced anyway and have just been chatting with a lovely chap from this group and I think I've bought his 1200s!

  5. Basic reason, is a 12 year old bike which has covered over 55,000 miles. The broker in your link, only offers multi trip cover for vehicles under 9 years old, offers no middle man support for recovery from French motorways and has a limit of liability of £2500, which is inadequate to recover a motorcycle, you and your kit from the Pyrenees back to the UK. In a number of recovery insurance policies I have looked at, £2500 is actually quite generous but more often than not, the limits of liability can make the product worthless. Andy

  6. Good advice, I might need to look at alternatives. I’ve usually had the Ducati cover as most of the time the bikes are fairly new but thought I needed more cover in case of an ‘off’ and need to recover the bike.
