Multistrada Buying advice

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Franksie, Jul 28, 2013.

  1. I,m going to see a 2011 multistrada at a dealers next week with a view to buying it. Would welcome any advice on what to look for, ie how can I tell if the rear brake mod has been done (visual signs etc) and anything else which would be of help, obviously I,ll check service history etc but interested in what to check on the bike.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Check around the exhaust manifold for signs of a water leak, especially the nuts on the studs. I bought my 2011 5 weeks ago and the water channels in the head have corroded. Make sure you have a good warranty, the repair would have cost over £3000!

i looked at a 2010 first but the suspension ecu had failed on that.

the bike is bloody awesome though, I can't wait to get it back!

  3. After a few years on a GSXR1000 - i swapped to a 2012 Multi 1200 Touring (with full Termi and lots of carbon, so it looks like the sport but has the hot grips, centre stand and luggage). It feels very different but within a few hundred miles you will love it. I have just toured France, into italy and back - 2000 miles of heaven and it handles better than anything I can do to it. I have fitted an airhawk seat as even the Ducati optional gel seat gave me arse ache, and it has got the 'standard i believe' 3000rpm poor throttle response and the headlight on main is way way to high (hopefully these will be sorted by Snells of Alton at next weeks 14000 mile service). Put on some road tyres - michelin Pilot 3s gave good miles and grip - and enjoy Ps my girlfriend loves the pillion - we are off to germany in 2 weeks for a blast - i mean a gentle tour!

  4. Thanks for the advice, I,ve just bought a nice 2011 s touring from a dealer in the midlands, just got to count the days now till I can collect it on the 10th, going to a long few days till then

  5. Don't worry time will fly and it will be well worth the wait:upyeah:

  6. BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY.
Great Bike, but when it goes wrong it's Uber expensive.
Never spent so much just trying to keep a vehicle moving!
And I've two V12 Jags

  7. The only reason I bought it is it still has extended warranty until 11/14 and dealer is allowing me another 12 months used ducati warranty from 11/14. I have to pay for the extra 12 months but reading about all the issues its well worth it. It seems that every owner has had some issues at one time or another, I,m use to 100% trouble free riding so bracing myself for some upsets:). Would be interested to hear from anyone who has had totally trouble free bikes, suspect there won't be many ..... I find it difficult to get my head around how such a well established and iconic company can have such piss poor QC. Still can't wait till next Sat to collect it
