Multistrada misfire

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by andydmcn, Dec 19, 2013.

  1. Afternoon all

Just a quick question. My long term test Multistrada 12000 S Touring has suffered a repeat of the misfire it had when new just over a year ago; once again traced to an HT lead and a problem with water ingress apparently.
Has anyone else had anything like this happen or have I just been unlucky?

    Any help appreciated.

  2. If it's the horizontal cylinder then it's not uncommon. My 999 suffered from misfires after getting caught in a monsoon. Horizontal coil not liking water ingress and also being corroded.

Here's a piece about 749/999 and S4/S4R problems Corrosion to horizontal cylinder plugs and coils

  3. Cheers. I know there are some significant differences with the twin spark head on the Multistrada from 2013 so I was specifically interested to see if there are any other recurrences for fellow Multi owners out there.

  4. Sorry to hijack, but can this be prevented in any way? Maybe some PTFE take or something?

  5. Bump....thread died without an answer...I'd be interested to hear more ;-)
    Anyone?

  6. 11000 miles on 2011 mts and 5000 on 2013 mts without any problems.

  7. Checked mine after this thread initially and it was immaculate. Pushing 9k miles, 2011. Standard hugger without the rear part on. Commute in all weather so it's in the direct line of fire of water from the front wheel.

  8. Got a problem with mine, 2011 model with 11500 miles.
Not sure what the problem is but will report on Tuesday after it been looked at by dealer.
Feels like its misfiring at 6000 rpm under load.

  9. If fails underload, fit new plugs!
And the tape you need to waterproof is self amalgamating, Any aerial fitter mates you may have or online or maplins CPC or rs components.
