1200 Multistrada Rear Brake.. :-(

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by bozzy, Aug 14, 2014.

  1. Hi all I've just collected my new toy, 2011 multistrada 1200s touring.
Prob being its rear brake is pretty much not there, now my concern is it's first Mot is now due and that rear brake won't pass!
I've read all about the bleeding either caliper in position or upside down and just read about bleeding through the abs pump by fitting banjo's.

Can anyone help me with this as I wanna get out and ride it.

Oh yes it's had the upgrade master cylinder fitted also.

  2. Welcome to what people feel is the biggest weakness of the multi. Rear brake!
If u search the forum there's a ton of info so happy reading.

  3. Don't forget to hang a weight on it (pedal) overnight (5-6lbs min), then take it for MOT without using it - it should/may just scrape through.

Otherwise the minimum is race fluid, sintered pads and ABS unit nipple to get anything near an improvement.

  4. Back brake ? I've got a back brake ? :Wideyed:

  5. Before the MOT.

Take off the calliper, Put something between the pads the same size or bigger that the disk thickness.
Bleed it with the nipple at the top. Put a load of rags up around the ABS banjo, loosen the banjo and bleed as it it was a nipple (5-6 long presses should do it). Clean off the abs unit with wd40 or such like and a good wipe to get rid of any leaked brake fluid.
Don't forget degrease the disk and fit new pads. But you'll need to do a good few miles to bed new pads in.

You'll love the new brake. :upyeah:
Makes you wonder why Ducati didn't fit one as standard.:Rage:

  6. Yeah like others i cant believe a company like ducati cant get a brake to work! its my first ducati so its started me off on the wrong foot.
Im struggling to find any banjo and bleed bolts to use on the Abs unit i must admit..
Im going to give it another go tomorrow, someone has put they took off the rear calliper and got it up to the handlebars to bleed it higher!
So long as i can get it to pass

  7. As the mechanic(greedy tosser) wont show me how he bleed my rear brake last year, and it was good after he did it, Ive ordered nipples for abs and large syringe( going to try and back bleed) so is removing the calliper only necessary if your replacing the pads and degreasing the disk ??

  8. My advice is to do it all.
Replace pads or at least degrease them with BRAKE CLEANER and rough them up.
Circular motion on a sheet of glass with a medium grade sand type paper.
    Degrease the disk.
Invert and bleed the calliper, then the master and then finally the ABS Nipple (patent applied for:Cigar:).
Use a different colour brake fluid as it helps to see when its all out.

  9. Grease on a rear disk mostly comes from the chain.

  10. Or take it back to the dealer and tell them you sold it, you pass it ;)

  11. it cost me 9k to fix my rear brake.......I bought a triumph!

  12. I think the term my dear old nan used to use is, "cutting off your nose, to spite your face"?

    ;)

  13. Is the red fluid better than the yellow?

  16. isnt the issue that the heat boils the fluid and degrades it as well as adding ait to the system?

  17. 2013 Touring, 6K miles, and my rear brake is still working fine.
Maybe less heat because of the full Termi?

  18. Swap the pads out for Ferodo Platinum pads; even better performance and cheap upgrade. Part # FDB2074P.

  19. Mine works but needs a good prod, but after the service yesterday it now works much better
