Has anyone produced a list of tools for touring with a Multi V4S Other than a tubeless puncture repair kit and compressor I’m not taking tyre stuff, but a list of hand tools. Cheers
I took: Tubeless repair worm things that don't need vulcanising stuff, so less messy Allen keys Torx things small 1/4" ratchet with various sockets 1/2 drive axle socket just in case nobody in the north of Scotland had one, got PP so SSSA, I guess S is a bit more straightforward disposable gloves double ended (oo-er!) screwdriver so flat one end and X the other A small adjustable, easier than lots of spanners Pair of small pliers a few cable ties in case something needed re-attaching a few sheets of blue workshop paper towel, keep it in disposable gloves so it stays dry And the balance of a 4 year warranty!
In all the thousands of miles, I've luckily only had to do the small odd jobs and basic maintenance. I take with me the usual kit as supplied in a ducati tool bag, plus a couple extra spanners to cover 8-12mm and lastly these. And two puncture repair cannisters as one is never enough along with said repair kit. Maybe a small can of chain lube, else I'll just find a place on the road. Additionally I always have a first aid kid (with clothes scissors), high vis, disk lock and the rest is dependant on how smelly you want to be.
The usual kidnap kit as I coin it' zipties & gaffa-tape, puncture repair system + mini compressor. Recovery & breakdown number. Rear & front wheel nut extractor, spare oil & fuel. Unless your going off-road I see no point in tooling up.
For the MSV4 GT, on longer tours (further afield) I take: Puncture Kit Compressor Multitool Yellow Vest Rag Motul Chain Paste & Tooth Brush Pressure Gauge 30mm Socket 36mm Socket Torque Wrench Pencil 8 & 10mm Socket 4, 5 & 6mm Allen Key S2T25 JAP Screwdriver 8/10mm spanner Super Glue Mini Wrench & Extensions 12mm Spanner 10mm Allen Key Cable Ties Tape Rubber Gloves The Motul Chain Paste & Tooth Brush takes a bit longer to apply but lasts a lot longer than those small cans of chain lube, i.e. the whole tour, as opposed to 2 applications. The pencil is for more accurate chain adjustment as I am not convinced the notches line up.
I am considering, taking one of these Motoforti 36mm Rear Wheel Axle Nut Torque Wrench Hand Tools HD-47925 Black https://amzn.eu/d/9gxJvVh I won’t be taking a torque wrench. These will be enough to get me to a dealer/hotel or more importantly off the roadside.
This is very handy https://amzn.eu/d/hLaYzLG plus this https://amzn.eu/d/gta8Ylb or the larger versions. However, do we take all this stuff when we go on holiday in our cars? Maybe some do, maybe most just rely on their breakdown cover.
The way I look at it is, are you likely to get a puncture? Yes - therefore puncture kit and compressor (sorry, canisters do not cut it, especially if you need to locate the puncture first [from experience]). Is it possible you may drop/incur minor damage? Yes - then tools appropriate to panels and ability to secure/remove/glue. On a long tour you will need to adjust chain and check tyres - sockets, wrench and tyre gauge. For anything more serious, there is breakdown. All my kit (except torque wrench) pack into the space in pannier above exhaust and puncture kit bag. Hope that helps.
This; small first responder kit, sticky string puncture repair kit, battery powered pump (good for 4 front or 3 rear tyres), SSSA chain adjustment kit, Wera tool kit, a few spanners and a power pack. All packs away in a Kriega 20 along with spare gloves for 2 and high viz tabards, which sits on the pillion seat with a Kriega 10 attached for a change of clothes, tooth brush and my jimmy jams. Andy
Well, technically, that’s not a breakdown, just need to plan the route better (or get something other than the thirsty V4S).
I guess some of you guys only take 2 pairs of clean pants given the amount of tools you need! I just travel with @TonyMNo1 @steveb123 and @rotaxracer - they can get me out of any situation!
