My 1098 has arrived.

  1. The 1098 has been delivered today and I am very impressed. Overall it looks in good condition. Not quite up to my cleanliness standards but nothing a bit of elbow grease won't sort out. Could also do with a new chain and sprocket. Not that there is anything wrong with them but they look minging and letting the bike down a touch.

On the plus side..... I turned it on and was greeted with the "1098 Racing" on the display. From what I gather this means it has the Racing ECU fitted. From what I was told it was just the standard one in there so pleased with that.

On the down side....When I turned the ignition on the display has a few marks on it. I looks like a bit of blotchy ink on the inside of the display. Only very minor and I can certainly live with it. Could this be from the misting of the clocks I am told about?

If this is the only thing wrong with the bike I will be very happy. Unfortunately is was absolutely pishing it down so couldn't take it out for a ride.

  2. Should have the full Termignoni exhaust system as well if it says 1098 Racing shouldn't it?

  3. I wouldn't know to be honest. By my first look it looked like just slip ons. However, I only got a 10 minute look before the light went. Now going through the finer paper work to see what I can discover.

  4. You can't tell from that. They could be slip on end cans or the full system.

  5. If it loads then this is the mark on the clocks.

  6. Is this a common thing?

  7. The 1098 racing is just the chip obviously and means the bike probably had either full system Termi of just slip on end cans. There is also the possibility that it was installed by a PO for some other make of end cans to fuel the bike a bit richer. As I recall its an open loop system with the "Racing" logo on switch on.

My dash has misted since I got the bike new in 2007 and does nearly every time I'm out, the dash is still completely clean

Obviously hard to say with certainty from a photograph but that just looks like dirt that's under the glass its not blocky or anything which might indicate failing pixels on the display.

Just what I see got no idea how you would split the dash to separate it to find out for sure and possibly clean it

  8. If the marks on the dash are on the outside and aren't too deep, use a gentle abrasive polish like Autoglym Paint Restorer, it should polish most of it out.

  9. The marks seem to be on the inside. They can't be seen when the display is off either. Can the dash be easily split?

You raise a good point in the fact that it doesn't look like dead pixels so maybe it's just dust/dirt distorting it. I can live with it but if there is an easy(ish) fix I'm all for it.

  10. wow you even slipped a wheelie bin in :upyeah:

anyway I hope you get it all sorted

  11. Pics of the whole thing?

  12. I would say that points to a problem with the LCD display itself. If it was just a mark, it would be visible all the time surely.

  13. Is it possible to get the display apart easily? If it is I'll try giving it a clean. If not I'll put up with it.

  14. This should clear things up re the ECU's and the dash message

    Stock - SBK 1098 TSE
DP Slip Ons - 1098 RACING
Full System - 1098 RACING EVO

  15. The crafty bugger!

  16. Chris, as soon as I noticed the "1098 Racing" I thought I will have to ask you the question then got completely side tracked. Seems like a bit of a result then. Are they usually tuned to have a race air filter in also? Havent looked yet whats in there but I will when I get chance.

    Cheers

  17. It should have the filter. You get the exhaust cans, ECU, air filter and a lambda sensor blanking plug in the kit.

  18. I'm picking my 1098 up in March. Similar mileage to yours.

I'm excited, but expect there will be a few issues to discover with a second hand bike (or indeed a new one  ). We'll see.

    Good luck with yours.

  19. Autoglym is a bit too abrasive IMO, Silvo works the best, works on screens and number plates as well
