Only just took delivery of my 1199 having a year or so Out from Ducati to play with the Big bang R1. today there together for the first time and the size difference is pretty noticeable on the pictures. The R1 is far from stock with Full Carbon Fairing, nose and rear along with CA5 Dymag Carbon wheels, HM quick shifter remap decat so on, so I was expecting them to be on some form of par..... Well I was wrong the Panigale is just another level straight from the box on many aspects. Don't think the R1 will be out in the Sun for a while . Don't get me wrong great bike but its not got the same feel. The reason I went for the ABS 1199 was the Electronic Sus not my thing, will update the Setup in time and see how it goes. Just can't decide to stay stock Exhaust or go for something nice its nice to be back on a duke again
So you put the Yam in against the Pani. I guess you won't be riding the R1 in the sun! YAMAHA YZF-R1 BIG BANG (DYMAGS, FULL CARBON + MORE) 10 REG For Sale (2010) on Car And Classic UK [C512543]
yeah its really nice just waiting for the 1199 Carbon wheels to arrive and then i can start with my carbon addiction once again lol
Why would anyone want to buy an unwell bike? Seriously hate that American coin of phrase and wish it hadn't made it here. But nice bikes though.
whats with the carbon wheels? just spent 2 weeks at the TT with one of the privateers and oddly enough no one had carbon wheels....pretty but not that practical I guess
The R1 is really nice, but 2000 miles in 4 years, can I have first dibs on the Panigale when you've finished with it? Both lovely bikes congrats on your new toy Looking at the pics, maybe you have a few toys keeping you occupied when not riding
Yes a bad habit picked up from spending a lot of time in LA, I'll try to reframe from the American Lingo Thats my mate Si apparently he looks like someone from that band Blue One of my Mates Dean managed a Podium at the TT and some good placements , There more for the weight saving and the looks I guess. I wanted to see what the hype was about so tried them. Yeah did not get out on her much shame really. You can never have too many toys
Nice one dude. I just bit the bullet and ordered a full Termi system for my 1199. Pretty heavy on the wallet but I'm sure it's going to be worth it once fitted
One of the magazines is doing a test of the super-lightweight BST wheels next month. The company claims 2 - 6 secs off the laptime on an average circuit. They cost £2k but if it's true then that's money well spent if you compare it to how much various bits of carbon and other purely aesthetic stuff costs. I know from cars that taking off unsprung weight can make a much bigger difference than sprung weight so it will be good to see some tests on bikes.
yeah there have been reviews on the BST carbon wheels before and they rave about them and they look fantastic but as I said in my first reply WHY when no one uses them in racing are they suddenly 'fashionable'. I spoke to a friend who has raced 8 years at the TT and his dad years before him and they said they crack and shatter may be worth googling to see if there are 'horror stories' I put PVM forged mag wheels on my 996 and they were superb..much stronger than carbon my views are only IMHO (with a little expert opinion thrown in)
One of my Mates Dean managed a Podium at the TT and some good placements , There more for the weight saving and the looks I guess. I wanted to see what the hype was about so tried them. are you saying he raced with Carbon wheels and the only Dean I know of that got podiums was Harrison, don't recall seeing his bike with carbon wheels...could be wrong
Perhaps people have that opinion after the Joey Dunlop crash in IOM where his rear wheel disintegrated due to some manufacturing defect, were those carbon??
