748 My 748r On The Dyno

  1. I am sure I have previously posted pics of my "finished" 00 748R refurb project on this Forum previously however one matter was unresolved. The bike was running horribly (and I mean backfire horribly) in the 3-7K range. FYI it has a 45/50 Termi system with UM241 chip. I decided on a PCV/Dynotune to sort the fuelling properly so I could enjoy riding it.

Everything is new external to the engine internals but they remain untouched. So with the PCV on when it was Dyno time I was interested in how the 20 yo engine would go, with 35K on it prior to it being laid up several years ago by the previous owner.

First a reference point dyno graph from one of Brad Black's reports (a Ducati tuning guru in AU) in 2003. In it (all are 748R's) - green has the 45/50 Termi system and DP chip, Red has cams dialled, throttle bodies bored, trumpets extended and custom Ultimap chip and the Blue has all that plus porting.

Next is mine, you can see the "before" in red was chaotic and the blue has smoothed out the curve to a peak 96 odd rwhp at around 11K. I have to say I am very happy that an engine with 35K on it is only down around 6-7hp, especially taking into account margin of error for variance in Dyno's.

Finally, as an aside I also fitted an Oberon slave cylinder which has lightened up the lever action a bit and looks quite nice too. :)
