1200 My Bike At Xbikes

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by MultiJSY, Apr 24, 2014.

  1. Anyone who might be interested in the Tuneboy mapping options and their quickshifter, Chris at XBikes has my bike at the moment and has posted a couple of spooky videos, see attached: X-Bikes Racing | Facebook

Pretty weird seeing that throttle move just by tapping a key on a laptop!

I can recommend Chris at XBikes, he has worked on my MV Agusta using the Microtec ECU and is pretty well known for his work and knowledge.

  2. I recall he's great with Katooms but never used him

  3. I take my 1098s to Chris I had him fit my Termi's and re map the bike runs lovely no more stalling at low revs I can recommend.

  4. I know Chris from years ago. Good guy!

  5. Anyone used him for dyno tuning the Multi after fitting a decat. Wonder if he can offer similar service as Chris at CJS in Bath. Right side of the country for me!

  6. ask chris cjs if he has sold his tuning system/method to someone closer to you

  7. I use X bikes a lot. they are a great pair of lads Chris and Dave, and have probably forgotten more than I will ever know! Can't reccomend them highly enough.

As an aside, are those that use them fairly local to them? I am only about 5 miles away so might see some of you about!

  8. Next time you see Chris ask him about when he got his knob out in a pub in the Lake District to show everyone his Prince Albert :D

  9. I will do - though I'll ask as I leave , I don't want to be seeing that lol

  10. I live in Downham Duke 600.

  11. Not the first time he's been recommended. I'm running a Microtec ECU on two of my bikes. Thanks.

  12. The Multi should have had a quick shift as standard fitment, sounds good banging through the gears on the rollers

  13. Ok, so I got my bike back from Chris and just back from a three and half day trip to France where a friend and I managed a shade under 800 miles, so got to use all the modes (except Enduro!) and can say that the bike performed superbly.

The 'Urban' mode is now in my opinion better than stock, it has a bit more get up and go, but what you can notice is the difference Chris has made by allowing extra throttle rotation for the power being asked for. I wanted a throttle action in this mode that would allow you to give it a big handful and wouldn't feel like it was going to spit you off. In essence it gives you confidence and has improved the around town ride ability, but clearly it is not powerful enough for fast road riding.

This leads me on to the 'Touring' mode which is so much improved. I can only describe it as a mix between the original 'Touring' and 'Sport' mode. I ran this mode for most of the trip using using the 'Sport' mode occasionally only since it has been mapped primarily for the track or shall we say 'closed road riding.' It is now more full on but you don't notice that much of a difference on initial throttle opening from the 'Touring' mode but it certainly takes off the more you roll on the throttle. Chris has effectively dialled in the opposite from the 'Urban' mode giving the bike a throttle that is similar in character to a full on quick action throttle. All in all very pleased!

Chris also put in three different trims on each riding mode, but as yet I haven't had a chance to try these yet. Chris was pretty excited by how much he could access in the ECU but I am not convinced I am a receptive enough rider to appreciate these different trim levels!

The QS is sublime at higher revs and the auto blip is totally addictive! It is just totally weird doing clutch less downshifts. It could however I feel be smoother lower down in the rev range and having heard back from Chris he has just had discussions with Wayne over this and anticipates improvements will come as more and more experience and understanding is made in this area.

Oh, as I am praising equipment, I can now vouch for Arai helmets, as a wood pigeon decided to fly straight into my helmet when I was doing 80 mph everything survived but it didn't half give me a headache!

Chris has asked that I post my thoughts here after I linked his facebook page. He currently has (or had) some Panigale's in for some Tuneboy tuning and is keen to get more Ducati's in. I appreciate that a number here have used Chris at CJS and if it weren't for my MV Agusta I would have taken my Pikes Peak to him, so please, I am not making comparisons here, I can't can I! I just hope that the above along with the geographic location of both Chris's (not being next door to each other) along with the different tuning options they offer will merely give those of us seeking after market tuning more choice.

  14. now where did i leave my banjo.....

  15. Hi Dave.
I'm looking at this for my 2013. MTS.
How have you found it on the long term ? Any issues ?

  16. Just back from 2000 mile trip around France and no issues with the bike, quick shifter etc. the only issues which, Chris from XBikes I understand is liaising with Wayne from Tuneboy on, is smoothing out the QS at slightly lower revs and we need to sort out a slightly rich fuelling on what we think is a closed throttle. Have read elsewhere, but weirdly I am sure the fuel consumption improved the warmer (further South we went) the weather got! Below is a picture from the gorge d'ardeche, stunning countryside.

  17. Yeh spoke to Chris on Wednesday.
My main issue is the fuelling from complete stops. Seems to be no decent way other than almost slipping the clutch. Either too much or not enough throttle. Chris said there as 2 maps. clutch in and out. Recons that's the issue.
I have the Leo Vince system on but needs filter housing and more flow.
I head away to France on 11th Aug for 10 day trip. So probably arranging a tune after then.

  18. So with Tuneboy do I need to buy a box/product to attach to the bike if all I want is fueling sorted (no QS or cruise control) ?

Or can Chris still plug in to the main ecu and map it with the software he currently has?

He did my mates SMT and that ran really well afterwards, also as has been mentioned he's a little closer to home

  19. From what I've been informed. It unlocks your original ECU.
If you want log in yourself you need to purchase the cable I believe.

  20. Correct, Chris needs to buy a "key" each time from Tuneboy but not all the software cable etc that goes with it.

In short by going direct to Tuneboy, you can keep re-visiting your maps alter them every so often blah blah etc etc.

Going with Chris means you leave it to someone (in my case) who knows what they are doing and gets to speak with Wayne at Tuneboy. However, if you want to make changes he needs to do them through his computer. Personally I don't have the time to get my head around all of the software or time to spend fiddling about with this and that, what with three kids an ex-wife and a wife who works shifts I just want the best bike I can get and ride it! Plus I have used Chris three times now for different work each time and believe he is very good at what he does.

Saying that, I do need to have a couple of tweaks made to mine and being stuck on Jersey popping over to Chris is not an option. So it has to wait until I visit the mainland which is a pain.

@ P4ULG yes the throttle is snatchy but is now much better. Still need to ride the clutch on occasions especially when everything is still warming up, but when fully warm not an issue for me.
