Hi folks - I’ve just bought a BMW which was imported from Japan by it’s last owner. On trying to use the ‘MyBMW’ app, I’ve tried to add the VIN to be able to use it, but (after getting an error and customer services saying it’ll never work) no joy. Does anyone on here have any experience with such matters that could help? I’ve tried a couple of iPhone VPN apps, thinking if I fooled my phone into thinking I was in Japan it would work, but to be able to use a Japanese server I’ve got to pay a subscription, which I don't really want to do. Any thoughts appreciated. It’s not a deal breaker as the car itself is fine, so more of a nice to have. TIA BJB
Likely the car will have to have been registered by BMW UK to work. I know my 911 came from Germany, usual forces discarded for first owner then straight to UK and UK Porsche couldn’t find it although the indi I used could find it as they transposed a Z for an S (think that was it) may be worth having a look at that: anything that could be wrong?
The customer service assistance wasn’t very helpful. Just a flat ‘it’ll never work’ but I’ve seen folk say it can be made to. It’s not a disaster but will try to figure it out. The other issue is no DAB and FM seems to find a very limited amount of stations. Am told I need an FM extender to remedy that. In the meantime it has CarPlay which although clunky due to no touchscreen allows me to connect to a radio app etc. Thanks J
